Our school is a year old in a large district. The community is burgeoning with younger families, resulting in another new school opening nearby so we're on a tight budget. Despite the budgetary pressures of growth, we implement programs which promote holistic learning, a heavy emphasis on Humanities, and strive to create avenues which open successful learning to each child and their unique capabilities. My students come from rural neighborhoods in a hard-working, middle-class community. Each day, 240 students attend my art class at our elementary school. Our model is in two-week rotations; therefore, I teach a total of 720 first through sixth grade students in each six week cycle. These students range from academically gifted to those who are more challenged in traditional classroom learning. Each student eagerly anticipates new learning experiences even when these activities require new or undeveloped skills.
