IALCS: Past, Present and Future, a Photographic Journey
Funded Nov 30, 2016My students and I are so grateful for your contributions. Students are learning not only the technical use of digital cameras, but also how to frame their work for stronger compositions. We are able to document artistic process and discuss multiple ways to solve visual problems.
What is most exciting to my students about using the materials we received is that they can now document their work and progress for portfolio development and ultimately for college admission. Students will also eventually be able to expand their knowledge by using more computer programs like Photoshop as well as exploring stop-motion animation.
There are definitely students who were struggling with fine art techniques, who have found a new interest in the arts through digital technology. Some students who were having a hard time being engaged in classwork are now the first to volunteer to be the 'art class photographer'. I'm looking forward to seeing students document future performances and art-making projects.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Curtis
Can You Believe Your Eyes? Primary Colors Please!
Funded Dec 16, 2015Thank you for supporting my classroom. We were mid project in several classes when we ran out of Acrylic paint. When the paint finally came in students were very excited to be able to complete their projects. As a NYC public school teacher I spend a good part of my salary on supplies and there are times when I simply can't afford to spend any more. Your help is greatly appreciated my me and my students.
Students received Chromebooks for the first time this year and I created the Chromebook Design project to give students an opportunity to design and decorate a storage place for their computers. The acrylic paint was a great and versatile medium that allowed students to explore a range of detailing and composition. Students learned a lot about color mixing, applying color theory and design principles, as well as general maintenance and brush care.
As a result of your support I will also be able to continue to teach painting the remainder of the year. One of my classes is currently working on papier maché masks and we will be using acrylic paint for the final details.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Curtis
