These whiteboards will enable students to actively take part in learning math. Students learn from doing, being active, and collaborating with peers. I envision them around the room crowded around whiteboards solving examples, sketching out thoughts, and most importantly working together. I want to create an environment where students collaborate and are not afraid to work out a problem, make mistakes, look over their work, and make corrections. Whiteboards allow for this more than paper because they can be reused and are more versatile. Whiteboards will also give them freedom to be more comfortable in the way that works for them, some students want to prop it up on the wall ad sit on the floor, some want to stand and be able to bounce around as they work. I wanted to try this out in my classroom so I purchased cheap materials to make some at the beginning of the school year and they are working great, however despite my students taking good care of them, they are staining, chipping, and are not going to last all year or years to come. I would like to purchase new boards, that are real whiteboards, that will be more durable, last longer, and we can use them more. If they are more durable I will be able to let other classes borrow them and benefit from these materials in their classes as well.
