Education is continuously changing! Technology in the classroom is definitely one of the biggest changes! We have access to so many web-based programs that can help students learn yet we don't always have access to the technology needed to use these programs. Students now take several assessments on Chromebooks. My students come to second grade with minimal typing skills but are expected to take rigorous standards based assessment on a computer as early as October! If we had consistent access to Chromebooks in our classroom, students would have the opportunity to practice their typing and navigation skills in small groups every day! We share a cart of Chromebooks with 3 other classes. Several of these computers are missing keys and/or broken. In addition, we don't have consistent access to this cart. The students are so disappointed when they arrive and find out we don't have computers for that day.
Please don't disappoint my amazing second grade students. Please help our classroom have consistent access to technology! I work hard to create a structure and routines in my classroom. When our Chromebook cart gets pulled for weeks at a time that structure is lost! By donating to our project you are opening new doors for a wonderful group of students! Just think: "Technology is not just a tool. It can give learners a voice that they may not have had before" (George Couros).
