Color Printer/Copier for Classroom
Funded Sep 18, 2024Over the course of the day, my reading intervention support reaches 25 students in grades 2-5. In addition to the Wilson Reading System, I incorporate anchor charts and games to create a colorful and engaging 50 minutes period of instruction. The charts are a support to students to remember rules and apply them in their reading and the games make automaticity and fluency of words, phrases and sentences a fun application of skills learned.
The color printer provided by this project has allowed me to create and laminate these tools for instruction and make learning fun on a daily basis. I also daily print out my lessons, homework packets, and letters to inform parents of progress, making it an invaluable tool for my daily work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting the work I do!”

Funded Sep 7, 2024As a reading interventionist, I target every single lesson to the individual needs of students in my small groups. These students are all performing two or more grade levels below reading level and need intensive support to fill the gaps and make progress toward grade level reading standards.
During the Wilson Reading block, the decodable stories are supportive to this task but it can be hard to motivate the students to read. Last year, I used the Magic Belt series (12 books) that followed the scope and sequence of the program I use and the students were motivated, engaged and excited to read with me!
The Totem series (a continuation of the Magic Belt series) purchased through this Donors Choose project has had the same effect on my learners. They BEG me to read these every time I see their group and the conversations that come from these books build comprehension in relation to our school's instructional focus of 'focusing on key ideas and details in both literary and informational texts through determining theme, summarizing, identifying central idea, and comparing and contrasting within the books of the series'.
It has been a joy seeing their excitement and I appreciate your support of our intervention time through your generous donation.”

Materials for Structured Literacy
Funded Jan 11, 2024Thank you for your generous donations that fully funded this project! As an intensive reading interventionist, I complete structured literacy practices with the students I work with. This means I will complete 10 step lessons over the course of two days, week in and week out. As you can imagine, this can get monotonous if the teacher does not work to make every element exciting and fun.
In an effort to do so, and also bring organization to the program that helps transitions so we can make the most of every second, the items purchased are going to good use! The post it tabs organize our work and make each step easy to access for students in their binders. Plus, we don't waste time flipping through pages which gives us more time to work! The erasable pens and neon pencils allow students to choose a writing utensil that brings them joy. The organizing totes allows the system to be organized for quick use in planning. The colorful cardstock and sheet protectors allow me to create fun game during Step 3 of our 1st block, bring joy to fluency and automaticy practice.
While these everyday items don't seem to be much ,they are making a huge difference in bringing excitement, organization, and ease of transition to our time together. Thank you for your support!!”

Funded Jan 8, 2024As stated in my original project description, I work with students who are in grades 2-5 and need support to acquire grade level reading standards. Some of these students have been diagnosed with reading specific learning differences like dyselxia. Through the Wilson Reading system, I provide tier 3 intervention through structured literacy practices. In Step 9 of our program, we do controlled text passage reading. During this time we read passages that have the specific skills that have been taught in a connected text. This is most often done through one page stories with the skills incorporated. While it is purposeful and students are growing, I wanted to find something more engaging for my students.
The Magic Belt series is a text series that works through specific skills aligned to what the students in my groups are working on. It follows two boys named Zak and Finn on a magical journey to help Zak's sick grandfather. This series is 12 books long and the students are loving the continuity of series reading while applying their skills.
In addition, I also received FUNdations large sound cards. These cards show a visual for some of the sounds my students need more support with. An example would be the glued sounds (Ex. ang, ing, ong, unk). These can be difficult to remember and pronounce, especially for my second language learners, making the integration of this tool helpful.
I am so grateful for your support in acquiring these materials.”
