"The Outsiders" Books for Class
Funded Mar 13, 2016Thank you so much! "The Outsiders" is one of my favorites books and I absolutely love teaching it to my 7th graders. They love this book as much as I do and every chapter they beg me to read more. We do tons of activities with this book from acting, collaborative projects on characterization, dress like the character day, and of course, intensive writing. In order to engage children, especially middle schoolers, they need to interact with an amazing book that can connect with them. My students become connected with the characters and the story line. This is any teacher's, or reading enthusiast's, dream.
This year we are looking closely into the idea of a tragic hero and how Dally and Johnny may or may not fit that role. My units are tied into the Common Core State Standards and I also tie this into the Code-X curriculum with scholastic's first unit, "Mapping my Life".
Thank you again!”

This classroom project was brought to life by #BestSchoolDay and one other donor.Making Ideas Stick!
Funded Aug 4, 2016Hello donors!
I just wanted to thank you for donating to my classroom. As always, I am extremely grateful. I use post-its and chart paper EVERYDAY. Chart paper is helpful when making anchor charts, which demonstrate key ideas that students need to know. It is also helpful for group work, which is shown in the pictures. Students work in groups and present their assignments. Having big paper to work from makes it a lot easier for students to work together. In addition, we do gallery walks and silent discussions, which also help students develop a strong understanding of the book through writing. During gallery walks students write their responses on post-its and add on to others comments. We also use post-its when we are reading to help us document our thoughts.
These simple supplies help so much. Thank you again.”

Classroom Library Books
Funded Dec 8, 2015I would like to start by saying how thankful I am; and since most of you know me, I am sure that you already know that. I am also sure that you already know how much I love reading. Because of my love of reading I have become an English teacher and my aspiration is to give my students the love of reading as well. The only way to do that is through giving them a variety of books that are appropriate to both their reading levels and their interests. Students read everyday for 15 minutes a day in my room, they read for homework, and they also read once a week for a full period. I take reading very seriously and being able to broaden my classroom library for them has been an amazing feeling.
THANK YOU!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Giarratano
