Helping students to develop to their full potential is my goal by providing gifted services for identified students from six of the low socioeconomic schools in our district. I teach students in a multiage program of kindergarten through the sixth graders. These students do not have a gifted program at their school, so they are bused to the Academic Potential Experiences (APEX) Center once a week for the majority of the day. Students join me from two different schools on their scheduled day. My students arrive eager, enthusiastic, and motivated to learn. They know that they will be exposed to learning that is open-ended and challenging. Working in a setting with their gifted peers allows for social and academic enrichment. The project-based experiences that I create for my students will be achieved with the technological tools of today. We will use our Chromebooks daily to enhance our learning in every subject area, especially in the Sciences and with our critical Language Arts skills.
