  • Projector for My Classroom

    Funded Oct 22, 2016

I am so incredibly humbled by all of your support. In times when the news seems to all be so negative, it is people like all of you who remind us all of the greatness there is in mankind. This will be such a wonderful addition to my classroom. Thank you from me as well as from my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rhoads

  • Mobile Partitions for Quiet Areas

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

My students are benefiting greatly from the mobile partitions. I have been able to set up 2 quiet spaces within the classroom. One has a bean bag chair, sensory tools such as coloring pages, stress balls, aromatic scents, reading materials and even a source for music with headphones. Students access this area when they are in need of a place to re-group and de-escalate. The second quiet space is more academic based. It has a desk, pencils, and other academic tools for use when a student needs a quiet space to do academic work.

Besides these 2 specific spaces, I have used the partitions to prohibit students from engaging in negative behaviors with each other and allowing for less interrupted academic engagement. I have also used the partitions to create a separation when working in groups so as not to distract the other group.

These partitions have provided the walls needed to allow students privacy to de-escalate and practice coping skills privately. They have been able to self-regulate and regroup without peers watching or criticizing. It has allowed the class to work together to maintain space when others are heightened and respect space and personal boundaries of each other.

I cannot than each one of you enough for your generous donation and support. It has made a huge difference in the atmosphere of the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rhoads

My students are the most caring, empathetic and yet misunderstood children. From no fault of their own, they have seen more in their young lives than a lot of people see in their lifetimes. These trauma backgrounds have prohibited the students from learning healthy coping skills. External stimuli can be overwhelming and will interfere with social interactions as well as academics. These students have learned to isolate themselves in order to deescalate and be able to process when calmed. They also need quiet areas free from distractions to concentrate. They are survivors and yearn for love and attention.
