Making Math Engaging
Funded Sep 12, 2022Thank you for the wonderful contributions to our classroom. The students were so excited when our box arrived. As I unpacked it the ohhs and ahhs were whispered and then shouted with each new manipulative revealed.
The magnetic tiles with numbers are a class favorite. The students love being able to show a number line using the magnetic tiles. They have begun to show decomposing and composing numbers with them as well, for example to make the number 6 one student may use the tiles 4 and 2, while another student may use tiles 5 and 1. They love being able to manipulate tiles and see what numbers they can put together to create other numbers. These tiles are great because they can be self checking, the back of the tiles has dots to count to check their work.
The number train puzzle has also been a great resource not only for working on number order but also working as a team to complete the puzzle.
We are so thankful for your contributions to our classroom and look forward to more fun with our math manipulatives as the year goes on.”

Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you for the wonderful contributions to our classroom. The students were so excited when our box arrived. As I unpacked it the ohhs and ahhs were whispered and then shouted with each new manipulative revealed.
We have begun to use the magnetic letters to practice our letter sounds and build words. A favorite game students like to play is eraser man. This game is a new version of an old game, where students try to guess sounds in a mystery word, if it is incorrect a part of the man is erased. The children love being able use the magnetic letters along with magnetic wipe boards to play in partners or trios.
We will soon be able to play the clip and read games since we have now began blending and reading c-v-c words.
We appreciate your donations to our classroom and look forward to having more fun while learning to read!!”

Funded Oct 17, 2021We appreciate the STEM kits we received. The students are engaged during center time working together and problem solving. They are learning to plan and create building bridges, vehicles and houses. The pictures that are included in each set has opened up many conversations. our English Language learners are using new vocabulary and are working with peers to create new designs. We are using the chain reaction kit during small group time to problem solve and also to discuss cause and effect. The students get so excited to see the different sets come out.
There has been an incredible amount of problem solving, language building and teamwork happening in the classroom around these kits.”

Funded Aug 8, 2021We are loving all the new books we received!! There have been so many wonderful titles that teach us about being good friends and accepting each other for our differences. These are extremely important lessons for our kindergarteners, especially this year since many of them have been home and quarantined for the past year and a half. They are still learning how to be together in a classroom and seeing others that may be a little different from them.
Since we are just learning our sounds and how to blend words it has been amazing to see the students finding those sounds in the books we received. They are also enjoying being able to check books out and bring them home to share with their families. The families are happy to have books that they can relate to and share at bedtime or other quiet times together.
We would not have been able to create our lending library and book bags without your generous donations. I love seeing the sparkle in the eyes of my young learners and their families.”

Staying Connected
Funded Sep 8, 2020I am sorry to say we still have not had the opportunity to use the sit spots or yoga mats. As of today we are still fully remote. It does not look like we will be returning to in person learning for the time being.
I look forward to the day my students can walk into the classroom and get excited to sit in their personal space near their friends. Until then I will continue to teach my kindergarteners how to read and count and become friends through Zoom. We are making social connections and getting excited every day to be with our friends and learn new things.
I want to assure you that when the time comes for us to return to the building we will put our yoga mats, sit spots and lap desks to the best possible use, playing and learning every day.
Thank you again for contributing to this worth while project.”

Funded Nov 26, 2015Thank you for donating to this worthy project. My first graders are loving the new books, sight word cards and beads that we received.
We have done many rhyming lessons using the Dr. Seuss books. The students are understanding word families and how to use the sounds they know to be able to figure out new words and nonsense words. Having books of many different reading levels is extremely important for my students. There are students that struggle with simple texts, but are now feeling more successful because they are able to choose books that are within their reading levels and also interesting to them. Students are now able to be partner up with students of a different level and happily read to a peer. I am seeing so many more smiles and excited voices during partner reading times. The self confidence this is building is also helping to increase their reading fluency skills. This is an extremely important skill for students to master in the lower grades.
Sight words can be a challenge for some students because they want to try and sound them out. With the new sight word cards and beads my students are able to read, spell and build the sight words. I have students that have now mastered more sight word reading in the past month than they had up until this point. We are able to tap into the different modalities of learning with different students and find what works best for each of them.
You have helped turn my already enthusiastic class into a class that is super excited to read and help each other. They are on their way to becoming life long lovers of reading and learning!!!!!”
