  • Literacy Games Needed for Small Group Instruction

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you so much for giving us so many great ELA resources! My original plan for this project was to use these in small group instruction, but we are currently in a remote learning environment. Therefore, I am going to start using these soon during my morning meeting/morning work time remotely! This will help increase comprehension and vocabulary, and hopefully give the kids a sense of normalcy in this very different learning environment! Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, we really appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Farrell

  • LEGO for First Grade STEM

    Funded Feb 28, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity. Because of you, we have a few new sets of legos to help aid our math and science instruction. With jobs and careers growing fast in the engineering field, these kits, believe it or not, are building foundational skills these kids may need for the future!

Now instead of doing boring worksheets, we will have hands-on activities using these Legos and small group math and science instruction. We can't wait to learn and grow in our science and mathematics skills! Thank you again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Farrell

  • Culturally Responsive Books Needed!

    Funded Jan 20, 2020

Because of you, my class and students in the future now have books that are culturally relevant. They are able to go to their classroom library and find books that have role models that they can relate to! Not only that, but there are more interesting and fun read aloud books as well. Although class may not be in session right now due to this pandemic, I will use these books at home to create activities for my students to complete online. Thank you for helping me make a difference, and for helping me give my students the tools they need to succeed!”

  • Financial Literacy Storage and Register Needed!

    Funded Sep 19, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations! We now have a large storage cart to keep all of our math manipulatives and games inside, and a new cash register to help us learn about money through play.

An organized classroom helps students feel safe and secure, and also helps us find everything quickly! Now during small group time, students will be able to locate their own games and manipulatives without teacher assistance. This also helps our small groups be less worksheet based and more hands on.

In addition, our cash register will provide a means for learning through play, as first grade is the time students learn about money. We can't wait to play and learn! Thank you again!”

    Mrs. Farrell

  • STEM in First Grade!

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

Thank you so much for generously donating our new STEM kits! Because of you, we have hands on materials to supplement our new science curriculum! We will be able to learn through play with these kits, as well as develop and strengthen our problem solving skills. Our class will feel like they are playing when in reality, they are acting as scientists, engineers and mathematicians. We truly cannot wait to play with our new kits! Thank you so much again for your kindness and generosity, we really appreciate it!”

  • Financial Literacy in First!

    Funded Jun 25, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping us get financial literacy supplies! In first grade, we learn a lot about counting money and the value of coins. Having these games and realistic money manipulative pieces will help students grasp the concept better, while also giving them an opportunity to learn through play. With the shift in standards being more centered around play, these materials will truly give us a head start in learning through play rather than completing worksheets. I cannot wait to show my new class all of our new supplies in September!”

  • Field Trip to the Zoo!

    Funded Apr 3, 2019

Thank you so much for funding our zoo field trip! We are going to the zoo on June 7, and our students are so excited! Many of them have never been to the zoo and will never be given the opportunity if not for your generosity! Our students are so excited to see the new rainforest exhibit, in which they will be able to see vampire bats and crocodiles! Other students are looking forward to seeing the giraffe and zebra exhibits. We cannot wait for the trip! Please stay tuned on June 7, I will upload photos of our class at the zoo! Thank you again for your kindness!”

  • Supplies Needed for Daily Learning!

    Funded May 17, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation of school supplies! Because of you, we will have enough supplies to finish our school year, and my class next year will also be able to start the year with some supplies! We have been in need of dry erase markers, sharpies and clipboards for awhile! My girls are so excited to have clipboards to work with during small groups. We love to sit all around the room rather than an desks, and these clipboards give us the ability to do so! They are especially excited to also have new and colorful magnets to use for our bathroom board so we can keep organized and easily see who is in the room! Thank you so much for helping us with our supplies, we are so very grateful!”

  • Writing Center Needed for a New Class!

    Funded May 6, 2019

Thank you so much for donating writing supplies to our classroom! We have already started using the writing prompt box, and we use our new sand timers every day. The timer we were using before was very difficult for students to read, so having a sand timer is a great visual, especially for our special education students. The timer has been used in both the calm down area of our classroom, as well as a way for us to time our area rotations. Our kids love the writing box as well! They were already able to write about their favorite kind of pizza and their favorite kind of weather. They love everything! Thank you so much for making our dreams come true!”

  • Supplies Needed: Headphones for Literacy Projects

    Funded Feb 1, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations! Because of you, we got to replace our broken headphones. We use our headphones every day to listen to stories, practice our ELA and reading skills, as well as play math games that help us practice third grade skills and more. In addition, we are even working on a project all about biomes on our iPads, and we needed headphones to make it possible! We cannot wait to continue using our headphones, and it is a relief that we have a few extra pairs in case we have another pair break. Thank you for making our classroom better!”

Hello! My name is Hayley Farrell and I teach kindergarten for Buffalo Public Schools. My school is in a poverty stricken area, and my students often come to school without necessary supplies. I try to work hard to provide materials for students, and it is my goal this year to also provide them with more hands-on experiences and field trips. As a kindergarten teacher, I feel it is important to set the right tone from the first day of school, because a child's kindergarten year can truly affect how they will feel about the rest of their school career. Having support with those materials and field trips will truly benefit students in BPS! I appreciate your support in helping my students' minds grow! :)
