Students in my classroom are often from low socioeconomic ethnic minority families with limited experiences and opportunities outside of school. Most classes are a mixture of students having various academic abilities. Although some students are at grade level and perform proficiently the reality is that many are below grade level, some have learning handicaps, and sometimes students classified as special education are also included. Nearly all classrooms across our school campus are a mixture of students having different learning needs. Using a variety of teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and various assessments is essential to ensure all students are growing academically. Daily my colleagues and I work to establish a collaborative and engaging learning environment within every classroom.
