The project in my classroom needs materials to supplement and support learning in my classroom. Hands-on materials are required to support learning in reading, writing, and science. In all of the subjects mentioned above we need to have organizational skills and materials.
Writing requires tools for success. Students will need a Writing Process Folder to show how their writing evolves and reminds the students of the steps needed to write in a consistent manner. Another organizational tool needed in writing are paper trays to keep papers grouped. Teaching in an English Immersion Program requires many teaching strategies. For example, I write formulas for specific verb tense studies and I need sentence strips to provide those formulas and examples. I will need somewhere to keep them as well, that's why I need a sentence strip storage box. A fun way to review grammar and vocabulary is to use games. I think my students would enjoy Bingo games. These are some of the basic writing tools I need in order to successfully teach my students.
Students are still learning how to read in second grade. I need some beginning reader sets that will help reinforce high frequency words as well as listening to stories. I currently have a broken tape player and we're in need of a new one. We also need some lower level books for First Readers. Flash cards are an exciting strategy when reviewing basic high frequency words.
Science is always a blast when students can physically see science in front of their eyes. I want the opportunity for them to see them awe over science activity labs.
All learning needs to be heard, looked at and practiced in order to learn it.
