  • Create a Calming Corner

    Funded Oct 20, 2022

On behalf of The Palmcroft Elementary School Resource program and our students, we would like to thank you for helping us achieve our goal to create our "Calming Corner". You have given us the opportunity to provide a safe and comfortable area for our students to decompress and relax. They are also able to use their new sensory tools if needed to soothe their anxieties and/or emotions. These tools help our students practice fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and improve their concentration. This increases their academic focus which helps them achieve their academic potential. It is very important for our students to practice these skills to help them reduce misbehaviors in their classrooms. We are beyond grateful for you and your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brooks

  • Second Chance to Learn How to Read & Write

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

My second grade students and I would like to share our gratitude with you for funding our project. Wow!!! Supplies worth $1000 of classroom materials. Who would think this was possible!! I can't believe your organization is so generous. This Christmas was a very special one for me as an educator needing basic tools for my students to succeed. Since it was just a few weeks before Christmas, the students and myself were very excited to see these enormous boxes arrive to our classroom. Christmas had definitely arrived early for us in Room 312. We were very eager to see what had arrived.

As the packages were delivered to our class, I showed and explained what we would use these items for. The students were as excited as I was to explore and unwrap the items. The most excitement was when I opened up the science experiment boxes. We have still to use them. The students however have used the pencil sharpener, starter book sets, labels for their iPad access codes, trays to turn in work, a very blue tape player to listen to our weekly stories and many more items. My student will have the chance to read and listen to stories at their reading ability. They will be able to organize their writing. As the end of the year draws near, I am already thinking of what I need to prepare for the upcoming year. I can't express my gratitude enough for all of the help in donating supplies to my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brooks

The project in my classroom needs materials to supplement and support learning in my classroom. Hands-on materials are required to support learning in reading, writing, and science. In all of the subjects mentioned above we need to have organizational skills and materials. Writing requires tools for success. Students will need a Writing Process Folder to show how their writing evolves and reminds the students of the steps needed to write in a consistent manner. Another organizational tool needed in writing are paper trays to keep papers grouped. Teaching in an English Immersion Program requires many teaching strategies. For example, I write formulas for specific verb tense studies and I need sentence strips to provide those formulas and examples. I will need somewhere to keep them as well, that's why I need a sentence strip storage box. A fun way to review grammar and vocabulary is to use games. I think my students would enjoy Bingo games. These are some of the basic writing tools I need in order to successfully teach my students. Students are still learning how to read in second grade. I need some beginning reader sets that will help reinforce high frequency words as well as listening to stories. I currently have a broken tape player and we're in need of a new one. We also need some lower level books for First Readers. Flash cards are an exciting strategy when reviewing basic high frequency words. Science is always a blast when students can physically see science in front of their eyes. I want the opportunity for them to see them awe over science activity labs. All learning needs to be heard, looked at and practiced in order to learn it.
