Light Table Sensory Center
Funded Oct 10, 2016Our Pre-K classroom already had some really great and engaging learning centers for the children to use, but none can compare to the light table center! With your generous donations, my class received a gorgeous light table that two students can use a time, and a variety of translucent objects.
The day the materials arrived the children were so excited (I think I was more excited than they were)! They carefully helped me unpack everything, and they immediately wanted to learn how to use it all. We began with the Magna Tiles since this was a learning tool they were already familiar with. As I turned the light table on and placed the Magna Tiles on it, the room was immediately filled with 4 year olds buzzing with conversation! We talked about what was the same when we use Magna Tiles on a regular table vs. the light table (same shapes, still magnetic) and what was different (light shines through and around shapes, appear to change colors).
They challenged me to see if we could cover the light table in Magna Tiles to the point of not letting any light shine through at all...challenge accepted! We worked together, fitting the pieces together, discussing the shapes, figuring out what worked, what didn't, changing our original plan, stacking, thinking, communicating, working together, until...we finally did it! So many lessons were learned in just the first few minutes of unpacking the materials!
Thanks to your donations, my 18 children are able to explore, question, learn, and have fun with our light table!”

Listening Center!
Funded Mar 3, 2016Dear Family and Friends,
Our Pre-K classroom had a CD player for the children to use, but no headphones, books or CD's...until you came to the rescue! With your generous donations, my class received 4 headphones, a junction box (so multiple children could listen to the same book simultaneously), and a beautiful library of books and CD's.
The day the materials arrived the children were so excited! They carefully helped me unpack everything, and they immediately wanted to learn how to use it all. They chose Goodnight Moon as their first book, and they sat silently, eyes wide, as I showed them how to put the CD in the CD player and which buttons to press. As the music and gentle voice told one of their most beloved stories, the one I read to them during nap each day, they could hardly contain their excitement. They were now going to be able to hear the story and "read" it whenever they chose to all on their own!
Thanks to your donations, my literacy center became the most popular area. The children can just listen and follow along with each recording, have fun, build literacy skills and self-confidence along the way!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Toledano
