The Amazing Kin Ball Experience
Funded Mar 27, 2018I want to thank you so much again for funding this project for our school! Unfortunately I still have not obtained the correct ball pump to pump up this ball. I will say that I have educated my students about Omnikin and they are very excited to give this game a try. My students have yet to see how big this ball is and what it is like to play with it but I am sure they will jump right in with their competitive spirits. My next step in this project is to get the ball blown up so that I can start teaching the fundamentals needed to play. The photos I have uploaded are of our basketball team working hard on the court. I am sorry that I still have not used the gift that we have received, but I wanted to make sure you all knew that when we can PS 36 will fully enjoy it!”

Funded Jun 23, 2017This project impacted my students in such a positive manner! We have been using the cloth ball as a marker for students that answer questions at the end of the period. When they catch it, it is their turn answer the question and everyone else must listen. So far, it is helping the children focus on who is speaking and keeping them interested in the conversation! We have been using the electronic whistle and it is amazing for 'start' and 'stop' signals! This can even be used during a basketball game when it is VERY loud in the gym. We have also been using the pedometers in the 5th grade classes. They love seeing how many steps they take in only a 50 minute period. While doing a Cooperative Team game today, I had 3 students put on the pedometers. After the period they looked to see how many steps they achieved and we talked about why the numbers were either high or low. The students are always very excited when we get new equipment in the gym. They are ready to use it. Our students will use the equipment given to get stronger and stay more focused in the gym. The next challenge we need to tackle is getting high scores on the Fitnessgram testing. I cannot wait to see what is in store for our students!”

Funded May 24, 2017Thank you again for these amazing resources that we have been given. Our students only just started working with the push up mat and they are loving it. We are working on their upper body strength and endurance and we will continue into next year with it. Some students have trouble with pushups so this is a great progression for them. Today, for example, a fifth grade class was playing Push It Out Tag! If a student got tagged, they had to go to the mat and move down the line by putting their hands on the hand prints. If they dropped to their knees, they had to start over. I also made it a little easier for kids that were not strong enough yet. They were allowed to put their knees down. After they made it across, in a pushup position they could enter the game. I also started using the soccer balls today! The kids were so excited to see that we are adding soccer to our yearly program. We told them that next year there is going to be a full soccer unit and they were ecstatic. Some kids were very happy to see the pushup mat while others were not excited to practice working on arm muscles. We currently do not have any lessons or projects being started because the school year is ending in 3 days BUT next year I will keep you posted on what our amazing students are up to!”

Funded Dec 23, 2015I want to start off by saying another HUGE THANK YOU on behalf of the me and the students at PS 36! The ball bags, floor tape, and hockey net have really impacted our lives for the better. My students have been utilizing the resources in many ways. The floor tape is used for each grade and was actually used a lot during the Pre k Ball sports day we just had. I marked off every place a student was supposed to stand during each activity. The floor tape was especially helpful during bowling! It was useful for marking off where the students shoot from while playing floor hockey as well. The floor hockey net has been a large form of excitement for our students as well. It has been used for soccer and for floor hockey small sided games. The students get very competitive so it is great to have actual equipment that gears them up for a real game. The bags are really only used for my benefit but they have been very helpful in keeping my materials together. (such as balls, etc.)
The students reacted in a great way when they saw the materials that were received. They could not believe that they would be shooting/kicking a ball into a real net. It got the kids a lot more excited for the hockey and soccer units. There is a sense of accomplishment when you see the puck/ball go into a net and hit the back of it. I really enjoy seeing the kids get pumped up after they score.
The next unit that my students are going to be leading into is outdoor games mixed with the hockey unit. We will be going into more depth on the strategy of hockey and how to score and play good defense. After we finish that unit, the students will be getting ready for their Field Day Team Activities! Once again thank you for all of your help. Me and the other PE teacher, Mr. Devanny, thank you.”
