Pretty Girls Brunch
Funded Sep 5, 2018My pretty girls and I truly thank you for your kind hearts. I meet with my girls once a week during lunch to chat and teach them things that aren't a part of the curriculum. We recently made smoothies and they absolutely loved them. Teaching them healthy living and snacking at a young age will create healthy adults. I wish someone would have shown me quick meals to make so that in college I wouldn't have depended on the microwave for everything. The activities we do during this time is short but sweet for certain. The girls look forward to coming upstairs during lunch once a week. I can't wait to paint canvases with them, decorate their mirrors so that they can look in their mirror each morning and recite positive affirmations. I hope that you know how thankful we truly are.”

Funded Aug 22, 2018Clean and healthy classrooms truly matter. Last year my students missed numerous days of school. This year I had to go into the school year with a plan. I was so thankful that this project was funded because I knew how much it would matter. My students love the oil diffuser and it helps all of them to focus and feel confident in their work. The Lysol wipes and spray have been a lifesaver. I have assigned students to clean the desks each day before boarding their buses. They are overjoyed to clean and know each day they are coming into a healthy classroom. Our class was recently recognized for the highest attendance percentage on our grade level. They are also able to learn beyond the classroom and attend field trips because they can now be present in school. With Fall and Winter upon us I am confident that our clean classroom will help us remain healthy during flu season and the coming months. Thank you so much for your kind hearts and generous donations.”

Funded Sep 22, 2018We received our snacks, bags, and drinks this week and the kids couldn't stop talking about them. I have never seen a group of eight year olds eager to learn more about the healthier options in lollipops, chips, and drinks. The kids were so happy to take home the popular Honest brand juices along with their Fiji water this week. They started telling their friends that instead of juice and sodas they would choose water to drink with their dinner. The veggie straw chips and the Yum Earth gummies were a huge hit in our classroom. As a teacher who has always tried to model healthy snacking each day I can't thank you enough for donating REAL food and snacks to our classroom. There is a difference between food and food-like products. Thank you will never be enough to show our appreciation.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018The end of the year can be beyond stressful for most teachers. However, this year was much easier and memorable. Our sprocket was a huge hit this year. The kids loved printing their photos to add to their end of the year photo album and award's day folder for their parents. We had an Oscar themed party after our award's day where all of my scholars were able to share their photos with their family and friends. The parents were so thankful that they were able to have a small keepsake of their children for years to come. Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. These photos will be cherished for a lifetime.”

Funded Feb 14, 2018Thank you for truly adding life to our classroom. Many view it as just adding a bookshelf to a 3rd grade classroom. I can assure you that it has been so much more. We have graciously received so many books from generous individuals this year and would have had to store them in the classroom ottoman or a box because of lack of space.
This second front facing bookshelf has allowed my scholars to have such easy access to some of their favorite books. They can easily come into the classroom and select a book off of the front facing bookshelf without waisting anytime and enjoy some of their favorite books before, during, and after school. I have noticed that they ONLY read books that are in one of the front facing bookshelves so I switch the books out weekly and sometimes daily so that all children will be able to leave my classroom this year with a plethora of knowledge through different genres of texts.
Many students have expressed that their favorite memory from using the bookshelf thus far was during Read Across America week where I put numerous books on the bookshelf and allowed them to choose one to put into their Read Across America tote. Other students have expressed that their favorite memory is them being able to choose read alouds from the bookshelf and we add it to our Epic Reads board.
Thank you for helping the love of reading stay alive in my classroom this year.”

Stepping Into 2018 Stylish
Funded Jan 5, 2018Many times we often take for granted the "simple things" in life and don't realize that the "simple" and "little" things are really necessities and "big" things to some. Having clean uniforms is a big deal to my students. Many of them don't have a washer or dryer and many times their electricity has been disconnected. The uniforms that you all generously donated have been nothing short of amazing. We turned Monday into "modeling Mondays" where we all are dressed in uniforms and throughout the week we dress in uniforms as well but as needed. Our black history program was last week and each child wore khaki bottoms and a historically black college t-shirt made by me. My scholars look forward to coming to school now because when they look good they feel good and they just perform better overall. Thank you for making them feel more confident and not have to worry if they would have clean uniforms because It wasn't "laundry day" for their family.”

Diversity Matters (Diverse Reads)
Funded Jan 11, 2018From the bottom of our hearts we say thank you and our lives are forever changed. This year I had students who entered my classroom and despised reading because they couldn't read. Many of them had been told they could only read books that were on their "level." I had to change their mindset and I had to do it fast. I began reading to them everyday and placing a colored small picture of the book cover on the "Epic Reads" board. No matter how busy our day gets we NEVER skip the read-a-loud. This has been a total game changer in my classroom. My scholars are requesting books they want read and also requesting to read to the class instead of me. They can now read and enjoy reading. To introduce these new books we engaged in a "book tasting" and the feedback from my students truly brought tears to my eyes. They expressed their appreciation on a whole new level. Thank you for donating books that each of my students enjoy reading and can also relate to. We are forever changed.”

Listening to My Own Beat
Funded Dec 31, 2017My students and I are beyond grateful for your generous donation of headphones to our classroom. My scholars are now able to log on to Iready which is a program that is individualized to meet each student where they are. The program has videos and is extremely interactive in both reading and mathematics. Gone are the days where they must turn the volume down low and not disturb their neighbor. They look forward to logging onto this helpful program each day because they feel comfortable and don't have to feel embarrassed if they are watching videos and engaging with below grade level activities. My scholars have made significant gains in every subject area and their confidence just keeps on increasing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Books and Blankets
Funded Oct 18, 2017My heart is still so full. A few days ago I celebrated the end of the semester and holiday season with a Charlie Brown Christmas themed party. We grilled hot dogs, played games, read lots of holiday books, and shared some of our fondest memories of the semester. About twenty minutes before the bell rang each student received their gift. They received the blankets that you donated as well as two books each. Their faces lit up with so much joy and they actually screamed with glee when they saw I had personalized them with their names. I even had students to start reading before they were dismissed and even into the hallway. I've had numerous emails and phone calls from parents in complete awe that someone other than them could love their child so much. From the bottom of our thankful hearts, we say thank you and are wishing you the most joyous holiday season ever.”

Funded Aug 26, 2017I can't begin to thank you enough for our front facing book shelf. We use this amazing addition for all of our picture books and it has truly changed the mindset of my students regarding reading. In the past, my students found it difficult to choose a book they were interested in with the book shelves that were provided for us through the school. With this amazing book shelf they have found books more accessible which has led to a love for reading. Every child looked forward to dressing as their favorite book character last month and all the books they chose were located on our front facing bookshelf. This made my teacher heart so happy because over half of my students had low reading scores in August and simply didn't find reading enjoyable. My scholars can't seem to put books down now and academically they have made significant gains in reading.
Thank you for providing my scholars and me with this amazing addition to our classroom. We will never be able to thank you enough.”
