This year, our school is increasing our capacity for granting access to technology. This project is one of the first steps in improving student experiences with technology in our math classes. When students need to model with mathematics, there are often not enough calculators to go around, across our mathematics classes. Even though we were able to have enough for our January administration of regents exams, we have a lot more students in need to prepare for their end of year exams.
Some students do not get the full benefit of having their own calculator to connect with different representations of functions or categorize their statistical data. We need to replace broken and out of date calculators so we can keep students on the path of success. This project will also help support our growth mindset initiative by having these tools readily available for student exploration.
