Basic Supplies for Amazing Students
Funded Feb 15, 2017I am so excited to report that all of the snacks and supplies have arrived at school and have been organized into the filing cabinet so that students have access to these items any time they need them. Students have already figured out the process! We have some students who come during a break to grab a snack. We have other students who come in before the weekend to stock up on food items for them and their families for other the weekend.
As the boxes continued to be delivered to our classroom, students asked where all of these snacks were coming from. It was so exciting to share with them that there are people out there who care about them and want them to be successful in school- so much so that they donate their money to supplies for them! What a message to be able to give. I wish that each one of you could have seen the look on their faces as they saw that people care about them and are willing to put their money into this project.
Thanks again for being a part of this amazing process. It is such a humbling experience to post a project and not know what will come of it. Each time, an amazing group of donors pool their resources to make things happen, to send strong messages to students and teachers that they are cared for and supported. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being a part of this process!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Life Essentials Supporters and 5 other donors.Supplies for Team Building and Collaboration
Funded Mar 9, 2016We are so thankful for the supplies purchased for our classroom. The students have so enjoyed being able to create and have the materials necessary to make whatever they can imagine. The day before spring break, we did the balloon tower challenge. Students embraced the challenge and worked in their teams to create a free-standing structure with only tape and 30 balloons. The tallest tower was over 6 feet tall! It was awesome to watch students problem-solve, communicate, and test their ideas. Thank you for your generosity.”

Technology to Provide Access for All Students
Funded Jan 7, 2016The iPads and accessories have arrived and are making an incredible impact on student learning! First, I had to learn about which apps would be the most helpful for students. I spoke with several teachers about what they wished the iPad could help students do in their classes and then I collaborated with several experts and found the apps to make that possible. I have been working with several students to learn the apps and their uses in the classes. It is incredible to see students who in the past needed someone there to read or write for them, experience independence as a learner. It is an incredibly powerful thing to witness.
One student in particular is using the iPad daily to access the general education curriculum in his science and history class. The teacher emails him with the homework in pdf format. We upload it to his iPad. He can then press a button that will read the assignment to him. When he wants to answer a question, he simply clicks a few buttons and can do speech to text. His original thoughts are being recorded in the document. He then emails this document back to his teacher. We no longer need extra staff to help him access the curriculum. He said, "I feel smart. I feel like I can show my teacher what I actually know." It is simply thrilling to watch!
Another app allows the student to take a picture of any text and it will then read it to him. He can access a sign in the hallway he could no longer read. He has access to a textbook that used to be inaccessible. I look forward to seeing what else this technology can do in the hands of an eager learner!
I wish that each of the donors could come and see just what an incredible impact your donation has had on my students. You have given them the gift of freedom! Thank you!!!”

Student Whiteboards
Funded Nov 16, 2015Our new supplies have arrived and we have been using them like crazy! The students have been busy creating posters with the large note pads and especially love the Mr. Scent markers. They are able to show their new learning in Geometry. They created posters to show triangle congruence proofs. Having the color really helped them be able to see how the triangles were congruent to each other. They enjoyed working together to create posters of their learning.
When the supplies first arrived and I was telling the students that these items were bought and donated by people who wanted to see them have the resources they need, they could not believe it. It was so fun to see them open the packages and see the new supplies. They immediately wanted to start using them.
The whiteboards have been used several times a week since we bought them to review Algebra skills. Students can graph linear equations on one side and show their steps to solving on the other. Having the whiteboards has made the review and practice much more interactive.
Thank you so very much for donating to my classroom. My students and I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness!”
