1 Ipad + 21 students = SMART Kids
Funded Nov 13, 2015A BIG HUGE Thank You for donating to our classroom through Donors Choose. The students in 2nd grade are absolutely LOVING the iPad.
Each week each student works for 15 minutes ALONE on the iPad. The students wait in anticipation for their turn. During the 15 minutes they are allowed to play (learn) on 4-5 different apps (i.e. Starfalls, ABCMouse, PBS Kids, etc.). These apps offer a wide variety of "on level" activities/games. For example, a student that is not at the 2nd grade level in Math can work on the iPad on a game/app that is appropriate for the level they are at.
This is a great opportunity for the students to work at their level. Furthermore, this gains confidence and strengthens their ability to get to grade level.
My future goal is to complete another Donor Choose project and add another iPad to our room. This will allow each student to increase their individual learning time by 50% each week.
To this end, students that are not able to participate in recess for various reasons use the iPad during that time (which is additional learning time). They again, play appropriate leveled games and activities.
Lastly, the opportunity many of my students are getting with technology is the the ONLY exposure they get. I have several students that have no electronics at home. In a world where technology is ever evolving and is all around us it is important to expose our students so they understand how to appropriately use technology and be able to manipulate how it works.
Again, Thank You so much for giving 22 students in Novinger the opportunity to use such a GREAT piece of technology to learn. I do believe at times they don't even know they are learning! Which is AWESOME.
Blessings from our 2nd grade classroom.”
