Students will work together to build projects with the STEM kits and challenge cooperative thinking while encouraging positive interactions. The children's books are meant to guide students in establishing meaningful relationships and foster a sense of emotional awareness. Whole group discussions and small group activities related to the literature content will be completed to apply students' knowledge in addressing adversity and improving self-determination. Breaking down emotional barriers by developing self-management strategies supports Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in establishing meaningful relationships and creating long-lasting resiliency. Reducing emotional stress and increasing positive student interactions are necessary skills when learning how to manage emotions and build relationships. Children's books and cooperative learning activities are exceptional tools to reinforce classroom engagement and community. Supporting emotional intelligence in children has the potential to establish healthy connections and self regulation. Every day, I walk into my classroom with the hope my students will overcome their adversities. Through the use of literacy and meaningful connections, I hope to help them break through their barriers and build bridges to gain more confidence, courage and resiliency.
