My students come from different backgrounds; most from middle to low income families. I have several students who are overcoming the challenge of learning English as a second language as they try to keep up with the other students academically. One of my students recently confided to me that she had no books to read at home to practice her English. We have now created a system for her to check out books to take home to read! I am constantly amazed at their energy and tenacity to learn. My students love school and I want to keep that excitement alive! We have some students who excel, while others struggle to read. The iPads would help all levels of readers. My school has a large free lunch program, but because of the large size of the school we do not qualify for title one funding to lower our class sizes or bring in extra help. We do have parents who volunteer from time to time which is a wonderful help.
