Health and Hygiene for Fall
Funded Dec 3, 2021The resources received have been a tremendous help in maintaining a clean and safe classroom. We as a class have been able to continuously clean and sanitized station and as a result have decreased the possibility of students getting sick. Since, students are not getting sick as often than they do not have to be absent and miss out on getting their education.
The students were extremely excited to see boxes arriving for our class. When they saw the items, they were hoping for toys or treats but were still happy to have materials to maintain safety and health for all.
The students use the hand soap consistently and continuously throughout the day to keep the germs and bacteria away. As a class we use the wipes to clean their desks and work surface. As many of my students continue to choose to wear face mask they often will get it dirty and breaks but as I have masks to provide students never went without.
As a teacher and class we appreciate receiving the donations so we can stay healthy and safe and not have to miss any more education.”

Funded Oct 23, 2019I would like to start by saying how thankful and grateful I am for the donation. The girls were ecstatic to receive the items. I was able to have an official induction ceremony where I invited parents to attend. As seen in many of the photos. The girls were so proud and confident to be a part of the Pearl Girlz. They proudly wear the necklaces, bows, and shirts whenever we are scheduled to meet. They look forward to coming to meetings and I can see the difference in confidence levels. The girls are made to be accountable for their actions and those of their fellow sisters. We will continue with the bi-weekly meetings and hoping to have a formal sit-down dinner using some of the materials for the girls at the end of the year. Thank you for everything.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron Fuel Your School.Get STEAMing!
Funded Oct 23, 2017My students and I have definitely been using the materials we received through the generous donations. They were so excited to see the materials and would ask me what are we doing with the tablets and how are we going to use them. I would smile and reply you will see. The technology we received have helped us implement more S.T.E.A.M. activities.
We were able to use the tablet for research and we most recently got Sphero iBots and with the tablets the students were able to use the program to do some coding activities. We are currently learning about animal classification and the students have been able to use the tablets to build their wild selves and research information about the animals they selected. They were able to print, cut, and create a poster using the information they found.
We are looking forward to doing more S.T.E.A.M projects before the school year is over. We will be learning about plants and plant structures. I hope to have them research about terrariums and engineer their own using recycled materials found around their homes.”

Keep Calm and Stay in the Shade!
Funded Nov 28, 2016We would like to begin by saying thank you for your continuous support. We here at Ojus Elementary greatly appreciate your help. In the elementary school setting the primary students, Kindergarten and First Graders, do not attend special area classes with the Physical Education teacher. The classroom teacher provides the physical education instruction and develops the activities for the students. Often times the students wither do activities within the classroom or just play at the playground. However, with the materials given the students were actually able to engage in physical education activities to develop various skills.
The first time the students got to use the jump ropes and ring toss they were so excited. Students got to do more than just run around the playground but to compete with their classmates in the ring toss and who can jump the most times using the jump rope. On other days the students were able to practice dribbling and catch and throw with the balls. They are able to better develop their hand-eye coordination and motor skills. They had so much fun and can continue to have fun and all the Kindergarten and First Grade teachers share and use the materials.
We will continue to develop activities and games for the students to play using the materials. We will continue to encourage to the students the importance of being active and getting proper exercise.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chen
Creating Future Scientists
Funded Nov 20, 2015As the packages began to arrive they were so curious and began wondering what was in the boxes. As I began opening one at a time they kept asking me what is that, what is it for, are we going to use it, and when can we use it? I explained that they were donated to us by a company called Chevron and we will be using the materials for Science experiments and learning Math. I asked if any of them knew what Chevron was and many of them replied the gas station. I said yes that is the company that was kind enough to donate and allow us to purchase all these materials. They were so excited and grateful and wouldn't wait to begin using the materials.
We have used the materials to complete Science experiments. In third grade at our school we do class Science Fair Projects. This year with the material we were able to complete several projects. We did an experiment with Skittles and determined if the time varies for the Skittle to dissolve in different types of liquid. We also experimented on whether placing a boiled egg in the fridge would make it easier to peel. We observed the effects of placing a raisin in Sprite to see the different state of matter of gas. We also did some cut and paste activities about positive and negative body images. The measuring materials were very useful to have the students gain a better understanding of measurement. A student asked me for batteries for a camera his grandmother had given him. He nicely stated, "Ms. Chen I can use the camera to start taking pictures so that one day I could be a photojournalist."
We are currently working on a play related to the Everglades habitat. Each student was assigned an animal to research and created a tri-fold with facts, infomation , and pictures related to the animal and the Everglades. In conjunction with another company we are working on teaching the students to sew and use a variety of technology to create garments. SO we are currently working on writing a play and then the students will be able to create and make their own costumes and set.
The materials that were so graciously donated by you is always being used and makes learning more exciting and hands-on.
We are truly grateful for the materials.”

Ms. Chen
