Funded Dec 3, 2019I have many books in my classroom, but none as wonderful as the books you purchased! The InfoMAG books are exactly what my struggling readers need. Using these amazing books during guided reading has really transformed our group and given my students an excitement for learning.
The biggest challenge I have working with struggling readers is finding books they really care about. Students who are behind in reading usually can only access books written for much younger children with subject matter that they don't care about. Your generous donation provided my students access to interesting reading material written for their level. The impact this has had on my students is phenomenal.
During reading instruction I use the InfoMAG books to practice decoding skills, work on sight words, study vowel patterns, and increase student vocabulary. Each story in the magazine is 1 or 2 pages which perfectly dive into the skills my students need to become better readers. The stories my students have loved the most are about whales, blimps, and even hang gliding. They are learning so much from each section we read. I even have one student who is learning English from these amazing books!”

Funded Feb 18, 2017The day the books came to our classroom was an exciting day! I stood back and watched the kids as they looked over the books and said things like, "Oh, I want to read this one!" and "I have heard this is the best book, I want to start it today". The excitement for reading filled the room as the kids looked over our new books.
Right away I implemented three of the sets of books into my guided reading groups and watched the kids devour them! I used "Number the Stars" with my highest reading group to work on deeper thinking within a text. We focused on connections, symbolism, and building schema and word knowledge. They couldn't believe the ending and were shocked to find out how much of the story was based on actual facts.
The group reading "The Sign of the Beaver" had better discussions with this book than any other we read all year. They made so many connections to the American history we learned throughout the year which helped them relate to the story and understand deeper concepts. It was thrilling to have deep conversations with them on how the Native Americans gave up so much of their land.
I have to admit that my favorite experience so far was reading "The One and Only Ivan" with a group of six boys who have been reluctant readers all year. It seemed like I could never find a book that the group liked, but when they read this book, they begged to read more than the assigned amount every time! I clearly remember reading in our group and watching a few tears fall here and there which of course, the boys quickly covered up.
I cannot express how grateful I am for these amazing books! There is no better feeling for a teacher than when you know you have helped make a difference in a child's life. These books were the perfect tool for achieving this and so I thank you so much for your donations.”

Funded Oct 27, 2016I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous donation to my classroom! The use of the iPad in my classroom has really transformed my teaching and increased students engagement. Kids who are usually reserved or disengaged are now clamoring for the opportunity to use the iPad and explain their work for the entire class. I hoped that the use of the iPad would help engage kids, but what I have seen has exceeded my expectations!
Already I have found so many incredible ways to use the iPad during whole class instruction as well as for individual needs. It astounds me to see the impact that your generous gift has had for my students engagement level! Each day I notice that they are excited about learning when the iPad is involved in the lesson. This is just what my classroom needed, and my students and I cannot thank you enough!”
