  • Coffee Cart Club! (Look What You Made Me Brew)

    Funded Nov 1, 2024

Thank you so much for your support in our coffee cart program. The fresh coffee and new espresso machine have made all the difference in making a drink that tastes good for our customers. The new folding cart has allowed us to keep it right next to us while working to place our finished drinks on top of which has been a huge help as well.

Our students are learning new skills each week and improving their independence in a variety of pre-vocational tasks. Our coffee cart program has been engaging, motivating and fun for all of our students and they are enjoying being leaders in this program within our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baber

  • Mini Fridge For Our Coffee Cart Program

    Funded May 18, 2023

Thank you so much for funding our project. This week, we have created and set up our space for the coffee cart to begin this fall. Thanks to your generous donation of the mini fridge it fits perfectly into our small cabinet opening in the area we will be working in. We are so excited to get this program up and running and begin offering these exciting therapy and educational activities to students. We know our students will thrive in this highly motivating and engaging activity to help build their skills.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baber

  • Serve The School! Pre-vocational Skills For Special Needs

    Funded Feb 9, 2023

We cannot express how grateful we are for your generosity in funding the start up of our coffee cart program at Jane Addams Middle School.

Both staff and students are excited for this opportunity to build their skills through this engaging and motivating activity.

Students and staff have been orienting to materials with enthusiasm and we have many ideas on how to use these materials to work on a wide variety of skills for our special needs students.

We look forward to building a solid foundation for this program that can easily be continued for many years to come, reaching new students each year.

    Thank you again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baber

  • Serving The School! Pre-vocational Skills For Special Needs

    Funded Nov 13, 2015

Our students have had so much fun learning through this project. It has been very engaging and motivating for them. Each week the students grow in their confidence in completing their jobs for the coffee cart. They are building motor, communication and social skills while also having a positive impact on the culture of our school as they connect with new teachers and staff. Our students have enjoyed making and delivering the drinks so much that they are requesting an opportunity to serve their parents as well. We hope to have a parent day in the future where students can show off their new skills!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baber

I work in an urban setting with students at the middle and elementary school level. My students have various disabilities which have impaired their motor, communication, and cognitive skills. The improvement of their life and adaptive skills are essential to them becoming functioning adults who can participate in and contribute to our community. My students work on a variety of skills such as tying their shoes, writing their names and preparing simple meals for themselves. This is all in the midst of academics, social interactions and everyday transitions from point A to point B. I want my students to have more opportunities to build their pre-vocational skills and social interactions to prepare them for living and working as an adult.
