Scholastic Magazines for 1st Grade Social Studies Scholars!
Funded Dec 26, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation to provide Scholastic News for my 1st graders!
My students are LOVING the news magazine! The text is at their reading level with pictures and engaging current events and relevant topics - we learned about groundhogs the week of GroundHog Day and we just read about Stevie Wonder during Black History Month!
My students also love the engaging online games, videos and activities that extend each Scholastic News topic! Scholastic News also provides engaging worksheets and printed activities that allow my students to practice their literacy skills.
I especially love that Scholastic News online has an available Spanish version, which allows a student in my classroom who recently immigrated here from Venezuela to engage in the topics in his native Spanish.
My students also love taking the Scholastic News home to read with their families and redo the games and activities with their families to show their knowledge!
Thank you SO much for providing the Scholastic News for my 1st graders so that they can have this engaging literary experience.”

I Can Read! Engaging, Beginning Readers for 1st Graders!
Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you SO much for your generous donations to my classroom and project! My students LOVE all of the engaging, high interest and diverse books we received!
My students love to read these books and are improving their fluency skills - their ability to read quickly and accurately - by reading these books aloud to me and each other.
The students are also improving their spelling and decoding - their ability to sound out new words - skills as they come across new words in these engaging and interesting stories.
My students are also eager to demonstrate their comprehension skills when they answer questions about the story and characters.
These books are so loved by my students, reading has quickly become one of their favorite activities in my classroom.
Thank you for providing engaging books so that my students can learn how truly wonderful reading can be!
I appreciate your support of education and my students. Thank you, thank you!”

Funded Apr 14, 2023My students cannot get enough of the phonics readers you provided for them with your generous donations!
There are books for everyone's interest and it's hard to explain how AMAZING it is to see every single one of my students find an engaging book at their reading level! :) I have students who love Thomas the Train, Blaze, Pinkalicious and these students enjoy reading together and helping one another sound out the words.
Students who are more advanced readers are enjoying reading the leveled non-fiction readers! They love reading in pairs and then sharing with me the cool facts that they are learning.
My students are also integrating writing into their reading of these phonics books! We have been working on drawing pictures and writing 1-2 sentences to describe what is happening in the beginning, middle and end of the books. This is a great activity for the students and they love to share their book and writing during sharing time.
These phonics readers have also been instrumental during small group as several of the box sets in the project have multiple copies of each book! So I can sit with a small group of 4-5 students and we can all learn and read from the same book.
Huge thank you to you for your support of education and helping my students fall in love with and become better readers!”

Funded Feb 8, 2023Thank you SO much for funding my project for phonics materials for my 1st graders! We have been using the materials daily during our language arts small group centers!
Thank you for making learning phonics and early reading skills FUN and engaging for my students.
The phonics puzzles have been fantastic! The students love to work together to spell the words based on the pictures and then they write the words in their journals and the more advanced students write a sentence using that word.
The Scholastic sets of leveled readers have been amazing to have and use! I read them with my students during small group and they also partner up and read them together. Since the books are leveled, I can make sure that every single one of my students has a book at their level that they are able to read. Their confidence in reading and, therefore, their enjoyment in reading has skyrocketed!
My students love using the letter blends and digraphs to practice spelling new words and using those words in sentences! The high frequency flashcards have been perfect for the students to quiz either other with (they love pretending to be the teacher!) and they also use the flashcards to play memory match.
I cannot thank you enough for providing hands-on engaging phonics and reading materials for my students that are immensely helping them improve their phonics and reading skills. I truly appreciate your support of my students and classroom. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 5, 2022Thank you SO much for your generous donations to provide Math Center Materials to my first grade classroom! These materials have had a big, positive impact on our math centers!
My students love practicing their addition and subtraction facts using the dice! My students who struggle with math facts use 2 dice, while my students who are more advanced can roll and add the numbers on 3 or 4 dice. The number puzzles have been fantastic for my students who are still working on number sense because they are practicing matching the number of objects to the correct number.
The ZINGO games are a favorite of my students - they love playing in their small groups! These games are great because they are practicing their social skills AND their math skills. There are two ways to play and they can practice number recognition or addition facts. We also love the clocks for practicing how to tell time on an analog clock!
The number cards and flashcards are also a huge hit with my students - we use the addition and subtraction cards in pairs and the students get to take turns being the "teacher" or the student. We also play several games with these cards; matching, addition and top-it where the student with the greatest card wins!
Thank you SO much for engaging my students in practicing and gaining proficiency in math skills! I truly appreciate your support of math education in my classroom.
Thank you!”

Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you SO much for your generous donation to provide diverse, high interest books for my 1st graders!
During independent reading time, my classroom is buzzing with students SO excited about the books they are reading now! My students are eager to read about familiar characters from Pete the Cat, Star Wars, Marvel and Disney. They are also grateful to see themselves represented in the diverse characters in books such as Ty's Travels and CeCe Loves Science.
My students' excitement about reading these books also extends to writing about their reading! Your generous support is helping my students engage in and find their passion for BOTH reading and writing.
Huge thank you for your support and helping to encourage what I hope is a lifelong love of reading in my students! I hope you enjoy the letters they wrote you!”

Funded Nov 29, 2021Thank you SO much for your generous donations to my project "Non-Fiction Books for Home!" My students were so excited to see all of the new books for our classroom non-fiction library and were beyond excited to check them out to take home and read. I wish you could have heard their excited screams when we opened all of the books!
We have used the books in non-fiction mini lessons to learn about captions, text boxes, indexes and glossaries - all crucial skills to being competent readers! We've also used the books to complete non-fiction book reports that have space for the students to write and draw about the text, they love drawing and sharing what they learn from all of these great new books!
These non-fiction books are especially fabulous because there are easy pre-readers for my students who struggle to read and challenging books for my advanced readers. Having non-fiction books in the classroom that are at various levels of difficulty allows ALL of my students to successfully read independently!
Thank you, thank you for the books to engage my students in reading non-fiction and encourage them to be lifelong readers!”

Funded Dec 7, 2012Hello! I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your thoughtful and generous donation to my classroom. My students and I truly appreciate the document camera and digital projector you purchased for our class!
Since it's arrival we have used it daily for reading, writing and math! We have even used it to watch social studies videos.
My students are all in special education and the visual support provided by this technology is so important to their learning. With the camera and projector, we are able to project their math journals onto the whiteboard and work on it all together! We are also able to share the students' writing and edit it together!
The students are also very motivated to share their work on the projector. This keeps them engaged in and enjoying learning!
Thank you so very, very much!”

Bilingual Students In Special Ed Need Books!
Funded Nov 29, 2010Thank you so very much for your generous donation to my classroom! I have been teaching for nearly 8years now, but this is my first year teaching students in primary special education. Nearly all of my students are bilingual and speak Spanish as their native language.
I am very excited to be able to fill our classroom library with books for them in both English and Spanish. I work with a wonderful teacher's aide who is also bilingual - so we will be able to read both versions of the books to the students in class!
Having these English and Spanish books is also important for the parents! My students will be able to take home both English and Spanish books to share with their families.
Again, I can't thank you enough! I am very excited and know my students will love these books you have purchased for them!
Thanks.”

Funded Oct 18, 2010Hello and thanks to all of you who purchased the listening center and books on CD for my students in bilingual special education!
The listening center has been a huge hit with my students! First of all, the controls on the CD player are large and easy to read, which means my students are able to independently use the listening center!
My students love the set of books that you also purchased - all of the books are fairy tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White, The Ugly Duckling and Rapunzel. Many of my students were unfamiliar with these stories before they started listening to the books on CD!
The CD player and audio books allow my students to improve their reading fluency as they follow along with the words in the book, while listening to the words in their headphones.
Thanks to you all so very much for providing these books and listening center so that my students can become better readers! ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Wagner
