I utilize learning centers as much as I possibly can to help my students foster independence and take ownership of their learning. A teacher led center is important to remediate learners and focus on the harder skills that we will be learning in third grade. It also provides a time to model and practice formal writing in a smaller group. Currently, I do not have a space to effectively reach students during this time. When working with my students, they are often sitting on the floor, or sitting next to me at another student’s desk with is not ideal for reading fluency and writing. With a kidney table and chairs, I would better be able to provide small group instruction and progress monitor students during learning centers in my classroom, especially for my learning support students, while also having a space to provide enrichment to others.
