  • Provide an Inviting Gathering Space for Literacy Engagement

    Funded Jul 24, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donation. When the carpet arrived, my students and I were absolutely thrilled! The beautiful area rug brightens up our learning space and provides us with a cozy spot for gathering together. We gather there for morning meetings each day and this has become a sacred space. Additionally, my students use this space for reading, sharing writing, alternative seating, and playing.

The carpet is large enough to fit my whole class! Each child has their own sit spot and it teaches the children the importance of respecting one another's space. Thank you for making all of this possible. Because of you, our classroom feels like a home away from home.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Crucetti

  • Back to School: Simple Supplies for Super Kids!

Thank you so much for your generous donation. When the package was delivered to the classroom- my students were thrilled! They had never seen so many brand new crayons on one box! They are so grateful to have replacement crayons and gluesticks. Every child has their own set of supplies that they feel responsible for keeping tidy and in good shape. Thank you for helping teach them responsibility. Thanks to our new pencil sharpeners, our pencils are always sharpened and ready for writing! Overall, the supplies have helped my students become better artists, mathematicians, writers, and creators! They use all of the materials that were donated daily.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Crucetti

A new classroom rug will create an inviting gathering space for students. It will brighten up the room and provide my first graders with a welcoming environment to grow as readers. As first graders, we spend most of our day together on our classroom carpet. The carpet is were we start our morning each day. Students participate in morning meeting on the rug, serving as the perfect place to build our classroom community. Here, children also receive direct instruction through engaging mini-lessons. I model fluency, decoding and comprehension strategies to build confident readers and writers. I share my passion for reading through shared reading experiences. My goal to is to inspire students to feel the same way as I do about reading a great book. Paul Sweeney said it perfectly, “You know you’ve read a good book when you turn to the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.”
