I teach a class of smiling, motivated, diverse first graders in a Title 1 elementary school. My district is in an underprivileged community with mostly low income families. All students receive a free breakfast and 85% qualify for free and reduced lunch. Being an extended day school, my students are in school for over 8 hours a day. They are eager for knowledge and learning, however with rising budget cuts and limited resources, it is difficult to provide students with the materials they need to effectively complete their assignments and work in the classroom.
