  • Science Research Class Needs Research Equipment

    Funded Nov 15, 2008

Thank you so much for your thoughtful contribution to our Science Research Program. This is a wonderful class that is offered to our students with lots of hands-on experiential learning. Our next unit is on water quality and water testing, so this generous donation is coming just in time. My students will be collecting and testing local water bodies for water quality indicators. I am continually appreciative to DonorsChoose.org for connecting people outside of education with students and teachers.

    Thank you again,

    Mariss”

  • How Does the Cell Divide?

    Funded Jun 18, 2008

I can not thank you again for your very generous donation. Cell division. Mitosis and Meiosis. Students dread these words and the unit. I am always left feeling that I should have done more to help my students understand. Now I have the tools to do just that. I am looking forward to watching the students complete the hands on activities, but what I actually can't wait to watch is that moment when the kids just get it!! I really think your donation is going to help me see that. And for that I thank you.

Have a great summer and look for our pictures in the mail next year!!

    Sincerely,

    Mariss”

  • Environmental Research Class To Grow Plants Without Soil

    Funded Nov 21, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our science research class. My students are so eager to get their hands dirty and this is going to a wonderful project for them. They have been working very hard on building ecosystems and trying to understand the connections between organisms and their environment. Our plant unit is coming up soon and these materials will arrive just in time. I am so appreciative that even in these difficult times there are people out there willing to help give our public school kids some help”

  • Microscopes In The Classroom - Part 1

    Funded Dec 11, 2008

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I can't wait to tell the students tomorrow that we will get microscopes for the classroom and that they will be able to see some of the cells that we have been talking about in class!!

You have given us a wonderful early gift during this holiday season and I cannot thank you enough!!

  • How Does the Body Remove Waste?

    Funded Jun 18, 2008

I can not thank you enough for your very generous donation!!! I am now actually looking forward to teaching the excretory system next school year (and not just because of the giggles and jokes that accompany the unit).

It is hard for students to visualize what is going on in the body, to imagine how molecules move. Now, thanks to you, the kids will get to see some of these processes for themselves!! It won't be such a stretch of the imagination.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    Sincerely,

    Marissa ”

  • Science Teachers Desperate to Be Creative... Again!!

    Funded Mar 24, 2008

Thank you so much for this generous gift. Our science research classes will be using these materials to create board presentations for an upcoming science fair at York College in Queens. We are so excited to be able to provide our students with all of these art supplies to encourage their creativity and fun. Our freshman students will be submitting original work in biological science. Experiments include hermit crab food consumption, irradiated radish seed germination rates and the effect of UV light on the painted lady butterfly life cycle. Our sophomores will also be presenting a research project on current advances in science and medicine. Thank you again for using DonorsChoose.org to help our students at the High School for Environmental Studies”

  • Science Research Class Needs a Projector

    Funded Nov 2, 2007

Thank you so much. What a wonderful surprise. After a long week at school this is the best news. The students will be thrilled to hear this. With technological advances moving at such a fast rate, keeping up in the classroom is such a challenge. You have made our lives so much easier and made it so many more classes can benefit. Projectors are in such high demand at our school because all our teachers want to expose their students to Internet resources, PowerPoint presentations and films. I cannot thank you enough. Your generous gift will be appreciated for many years to come”

    Funded Sep 2, 2005

Thank you for your generous contribution to my Urban Ecology class. These microscopes will be used by many students for years to come. They will add so much more excitement and enjoyment to our classroom and we appreciate your support. Thank you so much. We can't wait to look at some really small stuff.
