  • Rocking Through the End of 1st Grade!

    Funded Mar 27, 2020

This year is a very unique year for my students, however that has not changed how excited they were to come to school! They were all so excited to see all their friends and learn new things! Right when they saw the new materials for the class we were provided they were so happy and couldn't wait to use them. The magnetic folders we received I have used to organize all the teaching materials and student work to easily access. I also started using the educational games with the students. Today my class used the sight word sentence puzzle. It helped my students learn their sight words and use them in a sentence. In addition they used the Fiction Read Sequence Comprehension Puzzles. This supported the students comprehension and reading sequencing skills. The blend and digraph game also supported the students phonics skills to support their reading. They all enjoyed playing these games as they learned at the same time. In addition to learning the students love Art! We have made a lot of art projects so far using our new paint brushes! My students love painting and were so excited to use them!

Our next step as a class is to make an art project for Fall! We are creating our own leaf collage. We will be using paint and paint brushes to paint different color leafs and put them together to show the Fall! They can't wait to make it!

Thank you again so much for all your support to make my students so happy this year as they learn!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Julie Housman

My students in my class were so excited about all the new resources and materials we have received. They all wanted to look into the box to see what was inside. I pulled out the assortment of stickers and they all loved them. I have been giving them out as rewards when they follow one of our classroom rules. They are so proud to wear them on their shirt for everyone to see. All the laminating paper I received has been used to make a new classroom level library for my students to access. They have been able to use these books at home as well as in school. The students were so excited to have a new library of books with great pictures for them to read. The whole class also couldn't wait to see the colorful bulletin board paper, new bulletin board letters, and bulletin board sets to use for the board. They are such a great visual for others and make our boards look pretty with the work the students worked so hard on.

My students recently wrote opinion writing pieces about their favorite snow activity. We used the beautiful blue colored bulletin board paper as well as the peanuts bulletin board set to create a bulletin board to display all the work the students worked hard on writing. All the other classes have commented on how beautiful the board looks and how appealing it is. The color of the blue paper pops out and makes the students' writing all look great!

On our next project, we will be writing informational pieces all about penguins. We will be able to use our colorful bulletin board paper as the background. We will also use some of our winter bulletin board set to decorate the board. The students are so excited to write all about penguins. They have been reading so many informational pieces about penguins and will now write about what they learned. We will use our new resource we received to display their work.

We will also be continuing to build on our new classroom leveled library with our lamination paper. The students can't wait to use them!

My students again want to thank you so much for all your support and help with providing us with great resources for our class to always have! We greatly appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Julie Housman

  • Enriching the Learning of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children

    Funded May 10, 2016

My students and I all are using the new resources. Having these resources has created so many new opportunities . All of the borders and letters that we ordered are being used to decorate and display the students work on the bulletin boards for everyone to see. The book bins are in our classroom library holding our leveled books. They are able to keep them organized for students to read and use every day. The new books have been great to read to the children. At the beginning of the year I read "David Goes to School" in order to introduce classroom rules and how the students can do a good job in school. The Math Games are going to support my students' math skills in place value and adding to reinforce the skills they are learning every day. The students wore the aprons when they made a beautiful project to go on our bulletin board outside of our classroom. They each decorated their own clothing to put on their body that was displayed, with a writing about what they want to learn this year. The velcro has been used to help make our calendar that we use every morning in morning meeting to manipulate the months and days of the week. In addition, the Dinosaur counters have been very helpful in supporting my students addition and subtractions kills by using tangible manipulatives.

When my students saw all the materials shipped to the classroom they were so excited to open up all the boxes. They were amazed by how many new supplies our classroom was receiving. They wanted to open all of the packages up and use them right away. They started using them immediately and wanted to see what everything was and what it was used for.

The next lesson my students will be learning is writing about their own stories with many details, by expanding it into three main parts, "First, Next, and Finally." They will be using drawings and writing to support what they drew to represent each part of their story. Their final product will be put up on the bulletin board in the classroom to display their star work. They will wear the aprons when making their drawings in order to decorate it.”

  • Miss Julie's Beginning of the Year Classroom Set Up

    Funded Nov 17, 2015

My students and I have truly appreciated and enjoyed using all the new resources for our classroom. During every lesson and activity I use the easel to make whatever information I present to the students easily visible to them, supporting their learning even more. The students have really enjoyed using the easel when using magnetic letters to make and sound out different words. The hand pointers have truly helped the students follow along and partake in a shared reading. The students have even loved using the pointers themselves to help them follow along as they read to the other students. The printer has allowed me to print many teaching materials for the students to use in many different and types of activities. I have then been able to laminate and preserve students' work as well as materials I have made for the classroom. The Pop and Match Ending Sounds Game has really been enjoyed by my students. It has also supported their knowledge and usage of correct endings in their words when writing and reading. The book bins have been able to help organize our classroom library, which my students have truly loved using as they sit in the reading center and take books from the book bins to read. The aprons have been used by my students to make many types of arts and crafts without making a mess! The alphabet train has also been used by my students as they always see it in front of the room to remind them of the order of the letters in the alphabet. Lastly, the plan book has truly supported me in planning out my lessons to teach the students.

All my students were so excited as we used all of the new materials. All of them were asking where all the new materials came from. They were especially so excited to play the Pop and Match Ending Sounds Game as they got to learn about a new game as they read and wrote new words. When seeing all their work be laminated and preserved they were so happy that we received these materials. Without all these resources my students and I wouldn't have been able to do half of the new things we have been doing in the classroom.

The next step for my students is for them to write their own books about dinosaurs as we will be learning about dinosaurs, the types, and characteristics. We will read dinosaur books and each of the students will get to make their own dinosaur book for all the different types of dinosaurs. We will be able to then use our laminator to laminate the books we make and show them to everyone else in the school.

My students and I would like to thank you all again for all the great resources you have provided us. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Julie Housman

I work at a public school in Brooklyn. All my students have hearing impairments and need a lot of individual support to aid them in learning. I am one of the two Auditory Oral Classroom Teachers at my school and the support of these resources would be very beneficial to me and the students learning.
