  • Curtains Keep It Cool!

    Funded Dec 20, 2018

Thank you so much for your wonderful donation to our class! We have received the curtains and it is amazing what a difference they have already made! Our students were VERY excited when we received our curtains! No one had to move their seats because of the sun glare. No one complained because of the heat from the sun. They have made a huge difference in our classroom environment.

We have also received many compliments from other teachers in the building! They were amazed as to what a difference these curtains made and how lovely they look.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carvalho

  • Supplies to Help us Reach the Sky!

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your incredible donation to our class. Our students have loved having the opportunity to receive new supplies in order to keep them happy and motivated in our class! It's amazing how a new box of crayons can really change a child's mood and keep them engaged and focused.

With these supplies, I have been able to create "art boxes" for my students to use during the school day. When working on projects or anything that requires coloring/gluing/cutting, students are able to take an art box to use for their projects. Such a fun incentive!

We really, truly appreciate your support of our classroom. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carvalho

  • Growing Our Love for Reading!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation! You have helped us in giving our students the literature they most desired. We have been able to provide our students with different types of chapter books and nonfiction books that have given them a new excitement for reading. Students are given "book baggies" that they use to shop from our classroom library. They were so very excited to read the new books! Students that struggle to read have even borrowed one of the new books and are enjoying them! You have helped our students foster a love for reading.”

  • Ink To Help Us Think!

    Funded Jan 29, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations. Because of your generosity, we were able to purchase ink for our LexMark printer and a scotch laminator. Our students have been able to receive printed materials daily and also have been able to use differentiated materials throughout the day. Differentiation is so important for an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom. Our students learn so differently and being able to differentiated materials for them is so important.

The laminator has also been a great addition to our classroom. We have been able to create, print, and laminate different classroom resources, such as student checklists, literacy centers and other classroom items.

Thank you again! These items have been so helpful!!”

    Ms. Carvalho

  • WOW! Look At Us! We Want to be Super Organized!!

    Funded Jul 14, 2017

Thank you all so much for your very generous donations. The drawers have been a game-changer this year and have helped us stay organized. We were able to organize math manipulatives, writing tools, and reading textbooks for students. Each table has a supply manager who is in charge of distributing materials and keeping the drawers neat. The testing folders have also been a great tool for our students. We used to use empty regular folders that would cause so many distractions. With the testing folders, they are able to stay focused and complete their assessments. Thank you again!

Our students were very excited to see these resources in the room. As we added things to them, they became more motivated to keep their own desks neat and organized.”

  • The Wonders of Literacy: Kids Can Connect with Technology

    Funded Dec 19, 2015

Thank you so much for donating to our class. My students have very much enjoyed the iPads and having the opportunity to use technology each school day. In my classroom, the students are using the iPads in order to strengthen their reading skills, as well as their mathematical fluency skills. I was able to download apps such as Epic! that allows them to select from thousands of books to read or have read aloud to them. Many of my students struggle to read grade-level texts, and the Epic! app allows them to listen to and be exposed to these texts. I have also found some great math games that are fun and interactive.

For my students, the most exciting part is being able to "play" with the iPads during the school day. Technology like this is looked at as a treat and they become very motivated to work and use the iPads. I explained to them that the iPads are very special and should be treated as such. They love them!

A few of my students are reading below grade level and struggle daily with reading and phonics. The iPads have given them an opportunity to listen to and read along to texts - giving them the confidence they need to complete a book. Through the app, they are able to "level up," which motivates these specific students to move through the levels. The Wonders Reading program also has different activities my students have been able to access through the iPads. They can play phonics games and read texts we are covering in class.

Thank you again for your very generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carvalho

I am working in a Integrated classroom with a group of energetic and eager learners. My special education students' needs vary from speech disabilities, learning disabilities, and behaviors on the autism spectrum. They are pulled for several different services throughout the day, such as speech, physical therapy, counseling, and ESL. They enjoy using manipulatives and visuals in order for them to find success. My school is in a high needs area of Queens and consists of many students where English is not their first language. Many of my students fall under this category, and receive ESL services.
