I Can Jam
Funded Sep 20, 2017Thank you so much for your contribution to our music program. It has made a MAJOR difference in how our students have been able to learn and play music.
The reeds you purchased for us were enough to supply our band students for the entire year. Students are able to play their instrument without struggling to make a sound due to cracked or broken reeds. When their reeds become worn and they ask for a fresh reed, there is no longer the stress of them hearing that we don't have anymore and to try to do the best they can with the horrible one they are struggling with.
Orchestra students were so exceedingly excited to receive the clip-on tuners you've provided. They were so happy to be able to learn to tune their instruments on their own and even play their songs in tune! From this point, students will learn what "in tune" sounds like, and learn to tell the difference and adjust their pitch when they are out of tune.
Ultimately, our students' progress and enjoyment of music has skyrocketed thanks to your contribution. Thank you so much and we hope music will continue to touch your life in the most positive way!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jones
This classroom project was brought to life by Yamaha Corporation of America and one other donor.Music Matters
Funded Jan 1, 2016Dear Donor
Thank you so much for your charitable, thoughtful donation to the Doig Intermediate School Band. Our band is small and in music the smaller the ensemble, the better each individual member must be. It is difficult to hide, or bury the member that is struggling the most. Our students are constantly battling broken and/or old instruments in order to sound their best on them. One section in our band that has struggled year after year with this problem is our saxophone section. All sections of the band are equally important so having a better functioning saxophone section thanks to you donation has made a big difference.
The first place your gift has made it's impact is on the student who is playing the tenor saxophone you gave us! Mr. Rivas, a 7th grader, struggled for half the year to play on our old poorly repaired sax. He often felt embarrassed to play and his confidence always seemed reduce to what that instrument would or wouldn't do for him. He was so excited when it finally came and I was able to give it to him. He took it home and practiced all the time. He even stayed in at lunch to practice!!! He has progressed so much!!!
Next, the entire band is much happier. As you know playing in any ensemble is a group activity much like football, soccer, or any other team sport. So having an "injured player," really hampers the ensembles efforts to do well. My students are so happy to have a new tenor sax because they appreciate the impact it makes on their efforts. They like when we went to our Garden Grove USD Intermediate School Band Festival, we were able to play with better balance and harmony. Yes, thanks to one tenor saxophone and hard work, our band received "Excellent" and "Superior" scores from judges. Now the thing they're looking forward to the most is our Knott's Berry Farm performance coming up in a few days. They are confident they will do an awesome job.
Thank you so much!!!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jones
