Given the nature of the class, my students work one-on-one with dedicated staff members. So far, our school has gone through 4 rounds of distance learning. While this has been difficult for all students, my students have to transition from learning with an aide by their side to trying to participate in group lessons over Zoom, which is essentially impossible. With the technology I'm asking for, we could run multiple online classes simultaneously with individual students or small groups and allow us to actually meet the needs of our students. In addition, these supplies will be invaluable for them during in-person learning. Several of my students are non-verbal, and verbal communication is difficult and exhausting for all of them. Having iPads to use during class opens our students up to a world of activities using the touch screens that allow them to bypass the need to use verbal communication at all. Most people underestimate my students because they have so many barriers to communicating what they know.
