  • Nifty Nonfiction Readers Need Neverending Book Nook!

    Thank you so very much for helping our class build our "Never-ending Book Nook" with non-fiction books. This group of young ones absolutely ADORES reading non-fiction books; they love the fact that they can learn so many new and interesting facts about people, places, animals, and things they didn't even know existed! Although they love being able to choose these books for their recreational reading, the books also help them become successful students in so many other ways.

    Reading these books helps my students learn to pay attention to characteristics of informational books such as diagrams and charts. This will be very beneficial in their future years when they are reading sources for reports and research papers. I love to watch their excitement as they discover new facts from their book that they cannot WAIT to share with us! The wealth of knowledge they will gain from these books is endless.

My students are first graders whose ages range from 6 to 7 years old. They are very creative and LOVE to read! This group especially loves to read non fiction books, and we are working hard to add to our classroom library. They love that non fiction books teach them facts about topics such as history, science, and especially animals. We are a small "neighborhood" school with one section of each grade, Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. We are fortunate to live in an area that is quite diverse in many ways, and this helps spark our interest in topics that nonfiction books cover so well.

About my class
