A lot of my students are from one parent homes. They have questions about life, they are curious, they are wanting direction. They enjoy having time to read a book that they selected. I give them time at least once a week to read their chosen book for about 20 minutes to 30 minutes. My challenge is offering them good books that I know they will enjoy but also that they will offer them good life advice as sad to say, many of them are not prepared for life outside of high school. Our school is a small rural school with a mixture of black and white students. For the most part, my students want to make good decisions, I believe, but often lack the right direction and instruction from home is not always there.
