Interactive Language Special Education Projects
Funded Feb 6, 2016New York City Public schools have many resources at our disposal, however it is often the case where there is not enough to go around. When it comes to computers and laptops they are often being used by our technology teachers, or often outdated and in bad shape. Our students learn through technology. Technology is their language and we can only engage our students properly if they have that outlet to be reached,
The fact that students can use computers and a tablet to play learning games and make up traditional classwork is very exciting to them. They love the idea that they have opportunities in my classroom that in the past where not afforded to them. It is pretty gratifying as an educator to see your students get excited over something we take for granted. Yet it truly is a wonderful sight to see them become engaged and excited to interact with the curriculum in a different manner.
I have two students who are wheel chair bound and they have become particular engaged because since we have added the Chromebooks to the classroom. We have just made their lives easier due to this technology. We have created school google accounts for the students and we can now share lessons, handouts, and as well as homework's in a shared google drive folder for our classroom. It has allowed for more accessibility, accountability and engagement on everyone's end. It truly has revitalized their view, as well as mine on how we connect with students. More importantly, it has made their lives much easier.”
With gratitude,
Mr. D.
