The majority of my students come from low income, single parent homes. They face many obstacles in their daily lives, but most of them still show up to school with a smile on their face each day. They work hard and strive to succeed. With the recent implementation of the ACT Aspire, these students are faced with a new obstacle....typing their responses on the test. They don't take a keyboarding class and only about 20% of my students have computers to practice on at home! With only 30 minutes to plan and type their response to a writing prompt, I feel like we are setting these students up for failure. They have so many great ideas on paper, but struggle to type them out.
