  • Learning Through Color

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Thank you again for the color printer and ink.

The students have loved seeing the pictures we use in color. I usually print the pictures in black and white. When they saw the color pictures they were very excited.

One of the games we play is a word/picture sort with consonant-vowel-consonant words. The student chooses a word, stretches out the sounds and chooses the corresponding color photo that matches the word. The students ask to play this every day!

Using the color printer, to print off pictures, has really helped my English language learners incorporate common vocabulary into their memory.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ennis

  • The Big Books Are Like Humpty Dumpty; They Keep Falling!

    Funded May 16, 2018

Thank you so much for the Big Book easel. My students ask me every day if we are going to read a big book on the easel...and we do!

My students were excited to see a place to store our big books, so they don't get destroyed, and a "just right" level for their learning. They love being the "teacher" when we are reading a big book!

The next step in this project is to have the students create and present their own big book using the easel. Since they love to be the "teacher" while pointing to the words, this will instill pride and self-confidence in their writing.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ennis

My students love reading big books. Right now, the only place for them to safely look at the books, without damaging them, is on the floor. We have to be extra gentle with them because we have no place to store them much less read them as they should be read. When I am teaching from a big book, it takes two students to hold up the big book without the pages falling down and potentially damaging the books. If we had a big book easel, my students would no longer have to hold up the big books or worry about damaging the big books.
