On behalf of the New Bridges 1st grade team, thank you so much for your donation! Our students have been able to use their new books to help them practice strategies to decode words, such as using the pictures and breaking the words up part by part. They have been able to read independently and build on their reading life.
In our classrooms, students spend a significant portion of the day engaged in their books. They independently read as soon as they arrive in the morning and after the reading workshop block. Along with building their enthusiasm, having these new books in their library has also helped increase their reading stamina, as they have fresh books to choose from.
As soon as they got to book shop for their new books, the students were elated! Your donation and what it has lead to for each of our classroom libraries is greatly appreciated! We thank you for your support and generosity.”

My class is a bilingual class with both English and ESL students. They are extremely kind and hard working. The kids in my classroom have ownership over their own learning and a lot of what goes on happens organically. Kids often select their own manipulative they want to use to do their math which is designed to their own interests and ways of learning. I am pleased that a sense of community is developed in every student in my classroom. My students and I believe that creating community is essential to taking risks and deeper learning. Our school takes time building that trust and the rapport must be nurtured. We care about kids and they know it. Taking the time to know our students well, not just as learners, but also as people has helped to create a real sense of belonging in our shared space called our School. I believe this is the “magic” that makes it all possible. I am pleased to say that our school set high standards is one hallmark of our space and community.
