  • Help Kinders Photograph Their World!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Thank you so much for the photo paper, SD cards and printer ink . The students were so excited to use these materials this month to record our Inquiry Based Learning presentations on insects. Before we recorded the presentations, the students researched the insect they were interested in focusing on, wrote their speech, and created an original illustration to accompany their presentation.

During Open House we showed the recorded insect presentations. The students listened and learned from their peers, and the parents loved seeing and hearing their children. Your help in donating to this project means so much to us. Creating these presentations will be an annual event for our class. The students enjoyed being able to see their own presentation made possible by using the SD cards. Photos were also taken of each child with their project.

We have also been able to photograph numerous activities both in the classroom and on the yard this past semester. We will work to compile a student portfolio in the years to come.”

  • Kindergartners Want to Photograph the World Around Them!

    Funded Jan 26, 2018

Our classroom has been transformed now that we can document the students in action during our daily activities. My kinders love using the digital camera. After I upload the images and print them in color, my students are so excited to write about the photos. This has helped to inspire a lot of creative writing in our class.

I plan to use the digital camera and color printer every year, and will be creating a portfolio of their color pictures and stories. I know the parents and my students will love looking at the photos and hearing about their day in kindergarten.”

Thank you so much for the Sony camcorder. The students were so excited to use it this month to record our Inquiry Based Learning presentations on insects. Before we recorded the presentations, the students researched the insect they were interested in focusing on, wrote their speech, and created an original illustration to accompany their presentation.

During Open House we showed the recorded insect presentations. The students listened and learned from their peers, and the parents loved seeing and hearing their children in the film. • Kinders Want to Learn about Penguins!

    Funded Oct 18, 2017

Thank you so much for the amazing books about penguins that we received. The students were fascinated with the illustrations and the wonderful facts they learned about penguins. These books will be used for future years during our Penguin unit.

Besides receiving many books filled with facts about penguins, we also received many fantastic read alouds about penguins, such as Tacky the Penguin. My students love to hear about Tacky because he is one of a kind, and lives life his own way.

I can't wait to use these materials for our next school year. Thanks again for your generosity.”

  • Kinders Need a Chromebook for Center Time!

    Funded Dec 10, 2016

The Chromebook is a popular addition to our classroom. Not only can the kinders access learning websites like Starfall to supplement reading and math target skills, but they can also use the Chromebook to support their inquiries about animals, space, and geography on websites such as Kids National Geographic and ABC Mouse. For many of my students this is the only exposure they have to using a computer.

The Chromebook has given more students opportunities to improve their skills in using 21st Century technology. Its' addition to our classroom computer center enables my students to work independently on topics that interest them instead of always having to share with a partner. This hands-on experience with computers has kept them engaged in learning during their year in kindergarten.”

  • We Need Tablets for our Kinder Classroom!

    Funded Mar 11, 2016

Our kindergarten classroom was so fortunate to receive 6 Amazon Fire tablets through Donors Choose. My students are very motivated to practice reading and math skills during their center time. The tablets have provided them yet another form of technology to be put to good use in providing quality educational activities which lead to better academic performance by the students. The kinders are currently using the tablets to read short stories. The transitional kindergarten group is using the tablets to improve phonemic awareness. Both groups are also working on number sense and addition and subtraction. We tackled a research project and students were able to find facts for their report while using the tablets. I am noticing marked improvement in many academic areas.

Thanks to you all for your support of our project. The children are all smiles!”

  • Hot Dots Help my Kinders Practice Reading and Math!

    Funded Nov 8, 2015

The kindergarten students and I want to thank each of you for your support in funding our Hot Dots project. My kinders have been enthusiastically using the Hot Dots kits. The kits are used throughout the school day at a center and also at individual student desks to provide practice in both reading and math skills being taught.

The Hot Dots kits have been helpful in providing differentiated instruction, as there are so many skill levels within our classroom. The students are so excited to have the opportunity to work at their own speed. Their reading and math needs are being targeted. They are learning and having fun at the same time. I am seeing improvement in their academic performance and I am certain the Hot Dots Center is a contributing factor.

As a bonus, the students have been more diligent in completing their assignments as they are motivated to do their best in order to work at the Hot Dot Center. The kits are proving to be great learning tools for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zeigler

I teach a wonderful group of twenty-six students that are four-five years old in Southern California. Some students entered my class without knowing the alphabet and their numbers, and some students can write stories! Every day my students work together to learn new skills, including how to follow directions, work together with their classmates, and listen to stories on our carpet. Over 40% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and every student receives free breakfast. Our school is a fantastic blend of cultures, and many students speak another language other than English at home.
