Celebrate Diversity!
Funded Sep 17, 2022What a surprise the students had to see the display of new diverse books when they entered this morning! They were so excited to see the selection and could not wait until reading period so they could choose the books.
The students in my classroom are from a wide variety of ancestries. They can see themselves in the covers and connect with the inspiring stories. The books are also of various reading levels which is also tremendously helpful this year as I have a very wide range of ability levels.
I feel it is so important for students to have positive role models and choices that reflect themselves. Your generous donation is deeply appreciated and was greatly received by all.”

Chess Anyone?
Funded May 3, 2022My students and I can not thank you enough for your generous donation. These games will be used to give options to children who are not able to ambulate at recess. We recently had picnic tables donated which have chess/checker boards on top. Now, students who use wheelchairs will have an additional option at recess. The students will be able to play with other students or their teachers.
Learning to play checkers and chess involves higher level thinking skills and strategies. These games will be used for many years by many students.
Thank you again for your support of our school and students!!”

Funded Nov 7, 2021I can not thank you enough for your generous donation of the weather station! We are awaiting permanent installation on a roof top location, so in order to get some data, we hooked it up to a mobile cart and bring it in and out daily. Students check it daily to predict if it will be indoor or outdoor recess!
Our students are eager to check each day and are thrilled that our data can be checked from anywhere. Other classrooms- even the kindergarten students- have been checking temperature, wind speed and humidity! When our latest blizzard was coming, we checked the barometer readings and had a great discussion about air pressure. For once, I was excited about snow!
Your generosity is very deeply appreciated. This is a piece of equipment I have wanted for many years, and I am thrilled for your help in funding this for our students, and indeed- the entire community! I am looking forward to teaching our weather unit and using this to create our own real forecasts!!!”

Funded Sep 28, 2021Thank you so much for your generosity which allowed us to purchase the accessible easel. Three students at a time can use the easel, either standing or seated in a chair and/or wheelchair. This piece of equipment will last for many years, and it is adjustable to grow with the children who need it the most. It is also able to be used indoor or outdoors, giving more choices for outdoor recess. Thank you for making this possible!
Students were lined up to use this at recess! Suddenly, the students who use wheelchairs were the ones every student wanted to be picked by to play with them!
It is wonderful that children of all abilities can engage in an activity together, and not feel "different" or "alone". Of behalf of the students, thank you!!!!”

Funded Aug 13, 2021Thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing these resources for my students. I was recently transferred to this grade level, and did not have many books to share. We are learning about the native Wampanoag people and these books made the topic come alive!
My students were eager to read these with a partner and have learned so much! We ALL have learned new facts and they readily share what they know about this amazing group of people. Having books written by native people about their culture makes them authentic and more meaningful. Students are now interested in the land we occupy and finding out if they can trace their family trees back.
Your support in providing these books is very much appreciated and will bring joy and knowledge for years to come for many students here in Dracut!”

Funded May 7, 2021You can not imagine the excitement when the packages arrived today from Colonial Williamsburg and Plimoth Patuxet! The students were literally jumping out of their seats to see the items, and CAN NOT wait until we continue our study next week on the American Revolution!
This is a perfect way to keep the students engaged and motivated for the end of the year! They will be "Playing with History" and learning, all while practicing life skills. These games and toys require patience and concentration, and best of all- do NOT plug in! After half of a year of looking at computer screens, we can socialize (at a distance) and use hands-on games to imagine life in the colonial days.
Your support of this project is very much appreciated. These supplemental materials make the learning come alive. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Characters Like Us
Funded Apr 13, 2021What a wonderful surprise my students will have as we return back to school after vacation! I am eager to see their faces as they discover a new bin of books, all of which reflect their diverse backgrounds! The characters and authors look like the students, inspiring them in new ways.
Students who struggle with reading will be able to listen along to the CDs, bringing joy to the stories. Even children who do not struggle will enjoy hearing stories read to them, with sound effects, and a new voice!
As we prepare for upcoming state testing, these students will appreciate new stories. More importantly, they will know that the community cares about them and their education.
Many, many thanks for your generous support of this project. Reading is a lifelong skill that begins with an early love of books. Being able to see this diverse set of characters sets a welcoming atmosphere for all.”

Funded Dec 27, 2020The first group of students began their weaving artwork yesterday. Our art teacher gave a special presentation of native weaving and inspired the students to create their own patterns.
I can not accurately describe the excitement as they received their materials and began. The care they took in setting up and following instructions was impressive. Each student had an idea and was eager to see it come to life. This project will take several weeks to complete, but they are wholeheartedly invested.
Many of our families are struggling financially, and this project was fresh and new, and renewed their excitement for school. Students are already showing a deep appreciation for the hard work which their ancestors or native people demonstrated. The hands-on materials and a finished project will be a memory that they keep forever.
Your support of education and this project is deeply appreciated.”

Let's Put the T in STEAM
Funded Aug 13, 2019This technology has limitless possibilities. The students are seeing that we are learning this together and we are all thrilled at the possibilities. We have printed a test, and now some replicas of dinosaur and shark fossils, that we would only be able to see in pictures up to now.
The students are eager to plan and print their own designs. They are brainstorming ideas, and we are reviewing which software programs would be the most user- friendly to achieve this. They have ideas far beyond my own imagination!
Our students have limited resources, and this new technology is not something they would have access to outside of school. They have never seen a 3D printer, and some had never heard of it. Your support has allowed us to open a new world of possibilities for our students, as well as given them a competitive edge in tomorrow's high tech demand world.”

Funded Apr 10, 2019This kit was incredible! We saved the project for the last two weeks of school, so the students had something to engage them before summer break, and continue the learning process! The ability to go outside also helped tremendously! The kit provided
Students were so excited to explore bubbles and ultimately create their own wands to meet a goal they set- from blowing the most bubbles with one low- to blowing a bubble larger than their head. The took the engineering process very seriously and used the materials based on their goal.
Your support of education is very much appreciated. This was a wonderful, exciting way to end the year!
