Desk Pets for Excited 4th and 5th Graders!
Funded Jul 26, 2023This is AWESOME! My students love their desk pets--but, I mean, really love them. They take them out at any opportunity (though, they are also really respectful to put them back when asked). You might think that 9 and 10 year olds would be too old to enjoy imaginary, eraser pets that live in plastic boxes--but, that would be an incorrect assumption. My students have all named their pets and come up with their back stories. I have even seen students reading to their pets during Independent Reading. It's great. Thank you for making this possible and thank you for considering my students!”

Funded Jul 26, 2023We've been in school for a mere two days (whew!) and I need to tell you, it's been a great two days. My students are so creative and inquisitive and bright and friendly. I've been lucky to loop with my 5th graders (I teach a 4th and 5th split classroom) and it's been lovely to get to know them again and to welcome the new 4th graders with them.
I also know that part of what has made our welcome-back-to-school so joyful and intentional has been because of all the wonderful materials you sent us. Because of this generous community, we have had (and will continue to have) engaging and thoughtful activities that bring us together as a class. One activity in particular deserves a special mention: the paint by stickers as a large format painting. We tried this activity today and my students were enraptured: "Can we do this instead of recess?" "This is definitely the best part of the day." "Where did you get these?" It was a big hit.
Thank you for helping us start our school year off on the right foot. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness.”

Funded Mar 30, 2023Yes! We are loving these books! The picture books you have sent us are so beautiful, like jewels, the way that their colors come off the pages. And the stories! It is so fulfilling to have books in our classroom library that my students can relate it and books that challenge my students to see the world from another perspective--it's exciting what books can do. There is something for everyone in this package of books: insightful, inspiring and hilarious. My students loved, in particular, the Mother Bruce series--they were the highlight of several Friday mornings.
The books that you sent are crucial to maintaining our classroom community. Classroom community is always important to a positive learning environment, but it's even more so this year after two years of distance learning, pandemic uncertainty. Thank you for giving me the tools that we need in order continue to build trust and empathy in our classroom. These books are exactly what we needed. We are so grateful! Thank you for your generosity and your thoughtfulness.”

Funded Mar 31, 2023Thank you for this incredible gift of books and pictures and experiences. My students love reading, and above all they love reading graphic novels. It takes a lot of books to fan the flames of excitement for books and I am so grateful that my students have these new books to stay excited for reading.
Because of your support for our classroom library, my students have access to new and engaging books for our daily dose of independent reading. The Rabbit & Bear series was particularly desirable and I have several students reading them as a book share--once one student finishes one, they trade for the next book.
Thank you so much for making this possible.”

Great Graphic Novels for Great Readers!
Funded Feb 24, 2023Thank you for this incredible gift of books and pictures and experiences. My students love reading, and above all they love reading graphic novels. It takes a lot of books to fan the flames of excitement for books and I am so grateful that my students have these new books to stay excited for reading.
Because of your support for our classroom library, my students have access to graphic novels based on history (these are very exciting for me, their teacher) and the latest Bad Guys graphic novels (these were definitely in contention for the most desired by students, as we were taking them out of the box).
Thank you so much for making this possible.”

Healthy Snacks for Healthy Kids
Funded May 9, 2023These snacks have made such a complete difference to my students and their powers of concentration--you probably wouldn't believe it unless you could see it. These snacks have given us focus, motivation and fuller tummies, especially since our lunch is so late this year. Every Monday we vote on the snack line-up for the week--they negotiate and consider their options. Their favorite are the fruit leathers. We also discuss what makes a snack healthy and healthy life choices in general. Thank you for your incredible generosity and the gift of new, healthy snacks. You have made so much available with your donation. Thank you!”

Funded Jan 16, 2023Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. Snacks may seem like a small thing, and one not totally related to 4th and 5th grade academics, but in reality, they are very important to my classroom. Our classroom has become stronger and more closely knit because of snacks. And I'm sure that my students are more focused on their work because we have snacks.
One of my favorite parts of having snack in our classroom is our weekly vote on what snacks to eat one. This vote helps students practice collective decision making and using their persuasive powers on their peers--it's really sweet.
Snack time is very important to our classroom--thank you for making it happen.”

Exciting Spanish Books in Our Classroom Library
Funded Nov 29, 2022These books have been so impactful for my students. Thank you so much for making it possible for my students to have access to more highly engaging books in Spanish.
This year I am teaching 4th and 5th graders in a dual immersion Spanish program. For my students whose first language is Spanish, these books satisfy their desire to read books in their home language. For those students who are learning Spanish as a second language, the Spanish graphic novels in this collection provide them with rich language and support from the illustrations--it's a perfect match.
Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness. My students and I are so grateful!”
