Healthy Snacks for Healthy and Hungry Kids
Funded Mar 12, 2018Thank you so much. I can't say enough of how these snacks have impacted our classroom. My students look forward to snack time so much: "Can we have a Donors Choose snack now?" "When is the snack time, I'll put it on the schedule?" "Which one are we going to try today?" (Real student questions from today.)
This project has confirmed so many things for me: that kids can build healthy relationships with food; that healthy food can be yummy; and that being full allows kids to focus better on their work and enjoy school more.
Thank you for being a part of giving my students what they need to succeed. Thank you for being passionate about our classroom and about public education.”

iPad for 5th Grade Mathematicians and Explorers
Funded Mar 28, 2018This singular iPad has changed the scope of what we are capable of doing in our classroom. It's amazing what technology allows us to do in the classroom. And this evolution is because of you! Thank you so much for your generosity and for believing in public education. Thank you for understanding that technology is vital in a 21st century classroom and then giving us the tools to expand our education.
We have been using this iPad to use our collaborative Beasts of Balance game, our new interactive globe and the OSMO that we use during stations.
Thank you so much!”

Mrs. Solis

Funded Mar 27, 2018We are more powerful together than we are alone. My students are learning that incredibly important lesson from the books you've sent us. We've read aloud and browsed through a lot of the books since we got them four days ago. And my students and I have been blown away. My students are the leaders and teachers and explorers of the future, the books we've received are the building blocks they need to create a bright future for all of us.
Inspired by the books and poster notecards, we have been creating our own posters: "Art Saves So Save Art", "Love Trumps Hate", "Fight Racism", "Equality For All" and a variety of other messages. It has been a true education in active citizenship.
Thank you for the opportunity to interact with my students in this way and to have these important conversations!”

Funded Feb 13, 2018Thank you so much for this special opportunity! My students are loving Beasts of Balance. It's one of the first things chosen during Friday Choice Time. It's a magical thing to be a teacher--you get to see the same kids doing the same things, but in so many different ways. Their interests and abilities come out so fascinatingly throughout the year. When we are doing STEM collaboration, like Beasts of Balance, my students really come into themselves--they get to see how something that they value (trying new things, the connection between technology and hands-on, working with their friends) is also valued at school. This is a great lesson for me as a teacher: my students are awesome and their awesomeness is so paramount during the times we call "non-academic."
Thank you for your generosity and believing in public education. You made this possible.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Yes! Our light box is awesome. Our classroom community is more vibrant and more engaging than it was before the light box. Every day is a new day for someone to create a message for our classroom--and within a month's time each student has a chance to create a communication for their classmates. We've had funny ones, inspirational ones, happy ones, and, frankly, a couple of really odd ones. The emojis are a big hit and the students have liked the different styles and colors of the letters.
We are so lucky to have this new way to create and communicate with each other. Thank you so much for being a part of our classroom and for being a part of public education. We are so lucky to have generous donors like you!”

Popping Up Reading: Pop-Up Books for 5th Grade Scholars
Funded Feb 17, 2018"Teacher, can I read a pop-up book?"
"Hey, did you see this?"
"Wow, this is so cool!"
My students love the pop-up books that you have given us. This is the kind of experience that many of my students can't have at home--pop-up books are just too expensive. But, with your generous help, we now have them at school--and it's been an incredible experience. My students are interacting with books in a new way--looking at them differently, reading them differently and enjoying them so much.
Some of these pop-up books are engineering marvels and I'm so excited to see what my students create the further we get into this project.
Thank you for your incredible generosity and bringing these pop-up books to our classroom. We are inspired and delighted. Thank you!!!”

Flipping Out for STEAM: Landform Flip Books, Stop Motion Movies
Funded Jan 26, 2018You are awesome! My students are awesome! And flip books are totally awesome! And my 5th graders totally agree. We used our flip books to study landforms and earth's processes (like volcanoes, landslides and earthquakes). They worked so hard.
My students are perpetually curious and very creative 5th graders. This project was perfect for them. We've been studying landforms in science for a while. In order to make our own flip books we started by studying the published flip books, then students took what they knew about landforms and they made flip books (the light box was a hit). Most of them did volcanoes. The end result was great! The students loved this project and they learned so much!
Thank you for being a part of our learning and for being a part of public education. We are so grateful. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 28, 2017Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. We have made such good use out of the items and activities from this project (especially with the frigid temperatures and indoor recess). We've enjoyed an afternoon of art with the sand stickers, brushed up on our geometry skills with bingo, dueled awesome games of Spot It and Chain Reaction is the perfect companion to our science unit on Force and Motion. But, more than anything else, the maze balls have enraptured my class. They are totally engaged and focused. We are practicing dexterity and problem solving skills and, most importantly, persistence. When you lose the maze, just get back on!
I am so grateful and so are my students. Thank you for bringing STEM to our classroom!”

Funded Dec 18, 2017Thank you so much for this gift for our classroom. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. With your donation, my students have received an incredible opportunity. By using the LEGOs my students are expanding their ideas and skills regarding math and science. My students are becoming engineers of the future.
LEGOs are very popular with my 5th graders. They are making new friendships and strengthening old ones through their building activities.
We spend a lot of time in our classroom building community and working together--LEGOs build and reinforce our bond as a classroom. The students' excitement to work with our new engineering materials is palpable. We can't thank you enough for your support and generosity.”

Funded Dec 28, 2017Thank you so much for these supplies. I know that there are so many different and wonderful classrooms and projects that are asking for your help. We are so grateful that you chose our classroom and this project.
We are artists and creators and critical thinkers. As students at a performing arts magnet school, we are dedicated to including art in all areas of study. These supplies make that goal possible.
We have enjoyed using all of the supplies immensely--except for the clay, the beautiful, colorful clay. But, no worries, we have big plans for the clay--and it's going to be awesome! We are planning to start a new project making stop action movies (so excited!) and the clay is the perfect medium.
Again, thank you for your deep generosity and making art and creativity closer and more accessible.”
