  • Inspiration for Distance Learners

    Funded May 7, 2020

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity during our end-of-year Distance Learning. It has been such a privilege to be able to use these materials with my students these past couple of months. I was so lucky to be able to gather these materials, package them and bring them to my students' homes. Thank you for being a part of this effort.

With the materials in this project, my students and I made our own piñatas, made colorful art with the markers and some relaxation with the sticker book.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. This made Distance Learning so much better than it could have been and it gave my students and I a chance to grow closer in the process.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Solis

  • Books to Build Our Virtual Community

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you so much for this incredible gift to our (virtual) classroom. During this time of Distance Learning, my students and I have craved the continuation of our classroom routines and enrichment. Above all we have found community and solace in our daily read aloud. It is your generosity that has made this possible. The books we received have uplifted us, taken us on journeys, given us a laugh and let us reckon with our own strong feelings.

Thank you for thinking of us and giving us these opportunities to be together, even if through a screen.”

  • STEM Love: Robots to Build our Skills

    Funded Dec 18, 2019

YAY! This project has been so great! Thank you so much for your incredible generosity, we are so grateful. The Blocks Rock have been such a great addition to our classroom; we use the game in our math stations, inside recess (brrr, Minnesota winters), and during Friday Choice Time--it is a big hit amongst all my students.

The two Spheros we ordered weren't available, so we ordered a much better Sphero instead, with many more capabilities and options for coding. My students love the challenge of figuring out what it can do.

The engineers and mathematicians of the future are in my classroom, and with your donation they are so much more prepared for the 21st century. Thank you!”

    Mrs. Solis

  • 4th Grade Engineers and Problem-Solvers

    Funded Dec 28, 2019

Thank you so much for bringing this awesomeness into our classroom.

My students LOVE our new Sphero and the games that you donated. Every Thursday morning we have Exploration Time--which includes using all the robots and coding materials that DonorsChoose has provided us with throughout the years. It is one of the best times of our week. Recently, we invited a class of second graders to join us and I was told by their teacher that "it was the best day ever!".

During Inside recess (brrr, Minnesota winters) and in my after school class, we have really enjoyed using our new games and building new friendships. Thank you for making that possible. We appreciate your generosity!”

  • Coolest Homework Ever: Doing Art Projects at Home

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

This project is so awesome! Thank you so much for making this possible for my classroom. My students are loving the arts kits and sharing their results with their friends and classmates. We've seen smelly markers, magical creatures and painting with clay. There have been beautiful examples and art that went kind of awry, but that is sometimes the way art goes--not always perfect, but totally engaging and totally personal. Afterwards, each student has given an account of their art projects and are able to practice their public speaking. We have learned more about ourselves and what we are capable of and our interests. Thank you so much for these opportunities!”

  • Crafting Community Spirit one Art Project at a Time

    Funded Jan 10, 2020

We got our community crafting materials last week and we have been having so much fun. My students are loving the sticker books so much. We have been working on them during our chapter book read aloud, which is truly one of the most community-building times of our day, a time when we're all together and doing the same thing. The sticker books have brought us so much joy during this time. It's great for practicing our small motor movement, patience and persistence. And my students feel so much pride in their achievements--one student even put his final artwork (a woodpecker) on his locker. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity. I can't wait to try some of the other activities with my students, I'm sure it will be as successful as the sticker books. Thank you!”

  • Me Museum: 4th Graders Exploring Their Own Amazing-ness!

    Funded Nov 6, 2019

Thank you so much for these books. "Me Museum" has transformed our Friday mornings and our community culture and the ways that we think about art and ourselves. That's a lot of work for a little book. Truly, this is an amazing book.

Every Friday while we are banking for our classroom economy my students are working on their "Me Museum" book. And they LOVE it. They love that they get complete control over their museum (and it really does feel like a museum). They love that there are instructions and ideas on every page, but it doesn't feel restrictive. They love that it's a hardcover book and it's their very own. I love all of those things too and I love that they are totally engaged in this work.

Thank you for this opportunity and thank you for believing in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Solis

  • Incredible 4th Grade Scientists: STEM Project

    Funded Jul 15, 2019

"Destroy This Book in the Name of Science" has been an incredible opportunity and journey for my students. We have raced paper frogs using dish soap, made spinning tops and a slide whistle (that one didn't work as well) and learned about optical illusions. We have increased our understanding of science and engineering. And, mostly importantly, we have built our classroom community and made it stronger with this collective and engaging endeavor. These little books, with their vibrant turquoise covers, have offered us so much already and we can't wait to dig into the rest. Thank you for your generosity and for believing in us. Thank you!”

  • Graphic Novels for Excited 4th Grade Readers!

    Funded Aug 22, 2019

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. We love books in our classroom--everyday we have 30 minutes of independent reading. Studies have shown that kids who select their own books and are given uninterrupted time will improve their reading skills and, more importantly, more likely fall in love with reading. Giving this opportunity to my students is one of my most important teacher goals. Thank you for giving us this chance.

With your generosity and the amazing-ness that is Donors Choose, my classroom has one of the most amazing classroom libraries. I think this is an essential component of creating life-long readers--when they have access to high-quality and engaging literature they will be more engaged readers.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity!”

  • Early Chapter Books for Amazing Readers

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

These books and my students--they are inseparable. They love the books that you donated to us--the books are fun, modern and goofy--like my students. It's perfect, really. Thank you for considering and donating to a book project--our library is really the cornerstone of our classroom. There are other locations where my students can access books (public library, school library and their homes)--but our classroom library is communally ours, well-stocked, cozy and filled with friends--I think that makes it unique. We really appreciate the support you've given us and our future as readers. We are so grateful and excited to continue to read and love these books.”
