  • Supplies for Super Scientists: Distance Learning Edition

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you! These supplies have made such an impact on our distance learning. I won't pretend that distance learning has been easy, but by being able to do hands-on science projects together, my class has built stronger relationships and engaged in creativity and critical thinking. Our routine is so important to us--we do science experiments every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and we really look forward to those afternoons. We've made frozen multi-colored snow globes, a scissors-grabber and today we made a "throw 'em a curveball"--a great physics experiment. Through our mistakes and successes, we have learned so much.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity--it has made a big impact my students' learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Solis

  • A Kids Book About...

    Funded Dec 16, 2020

These books came at the perfect time. Thank you! At the end of February, many of my students and I will be returning to in-person learning after 10 months of being apart. I have been with these students for two years (4th grade and 5th grade) and we have built strong relationships. Those relationships have sustained us during Distance Learning. Still, the return to the school building will be a shock to the system and school will not be the same as "normal." The "Kids Book About" books that you have donated to our classroom are going to make the biggest difference to my students and our community as we come back into the building. Books about change, belonging, systemic racism, emotions, empathy, failure and creativity will support us and our big and varied emotions as we experience this new reality. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Solis

  • Up, Up and Away! Rocket Launchers to Awesomeness!

    Funded Sep 15, 2020

These rockets are AMAZING! Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. While you had donated these rockets during the summer, I decided to save them for later in the year. In the end, they were a perfect winter gift. The week before we went on Winter Break, I read books related to the universe and astronauts and highlighted African American heroes of outer space. My students were so engaged. Then I dropped off a wrapped air rocket to each student's house--it was so much fun. Students' report back was definitely positive. They loved the rockets!

Thank you so much for making this possible. I am so grateful and humbled by your thoughtfulness and generosity.”

  • Healthy Snacks for Hardworking 5th Graders!

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation of these snacks. The snacks have made such a difference during our Distance Learning. My students and I have been enjoying Hot Chocolate Independent Reading on Mondays and Popcorn in the Afternoon on Fridays--and it's been wonderful! My students have also been enjoying grabbing a snack during the day.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Distance Learning has been a great challenge so the little joys, like a yummy snack or sharing hot chocolate, have brightened our experience and made our classroom community stronger.

    Thank you.”

    Mrs. Solis

  • Building Home Libraries: Distance Learning Edition

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

These books are absolutely amazing! I am so grateful for your generosity. I was able to give each of my students three highly engaging graphic novels that they will keep. During this time of Distance Learning, it is so hard to not give my students the opportunity to fall in love with my classroom library--but these books have filled some of the void. So exciting. I wish I could show you pictures of my students gobbling up these books and their excited eyes when they saw that they would get their own copies of these desirable books.

Thank you for your incredible generosity and thoughtfulness. It is an honor to be able to provide my students with exciting and relevant books with diverse characters during a global pandemic. We are so grateful. Thank you.”

  • Read Aloud for Distance Learning Community

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Thank you so much for this incredible gift to our (virtual) classroom. During this time of Distance Learning, my students and I have craved the continuation of our classroom routines and enrichment. Above all we have found community and solace in our daily read aloud. It is your generosity that has made this possible.

Just today we read the book "Rainbow Weaver," a beautiful book about a young girl in Guatemala creating her own identity within the traditions of her community. When I finished reading, one of my students, who is from Guatemala, taught us a few words in Mam (his home dialect). It was powerful, validating and fulfilling. My students are amazing and they bring so much to our classroom community--it's books like these that help us expand and enrich our world view. Thank you.

The books we received have uplifted us, taken us on journeys, given us a laugh and let us reckon with our own strong feelings.

Thank you for thinking of us and giving us these opportunities to be together, even if through a screen.”

  • Building Home Libraries: Graphic Novels with Diverse Characters

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Amazing! The books that you provided to my students by donating to this project are the key to happiness in 2020. With some other donations, I was able to send each student 6 brand new, engaging, selected books to each student in my classroom. And books, for my students, equals happiness.

Thank you for your incredible generosity and thoughtfulness. It is, with all honesty, a relief to be able to provide my students with exciting and relevant books with diverse characters during a global pandemic. We are so grateful. Thank you.”

  • Up Up and Away: Inspired to Reach the Stars!

    Funded Sep 12, 2020

These books and materials are perfect and exactly what my students needed in 2020. This year has caused so much upheaval and uncertainty for my students and I so grateful that they have this opportunity to dream of the universe and to learn of the strength and purpose of the people who have studied outer space. My students are dreamers and doers--kind of the perfect combination for the study of outer space.

The activity book that I had originally ordered was not yet published when the project was funded, so I selected two different activity books by National Geographic, and they're perfect. Those two books and a selection of outer space themed notebooks, bookmarks and pencils have made my students very excited about science.

Thank you for this opportunity and thank you for believing in my students.”

    With gratitude,

  • Stikbots to Engage Us During Distance Learning

    Funded May 6, 2020

Thank you so much for the Stikbots. My students are so excited. We received these figurines last Spring, but we didn't have time to fully explore them. Fortunately, I looped with my class--that is, I followed my students to 5th grade. And today I revealed our big project. We are going to make Stop Motion Videos! I am so excited.

I showed a couple of video examples in class and my students are thrilled. They love this idea. They have the option of making a video using the Stikbots, LEGOs or clay--each medium has its own benefits. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Thank you for being a part of our classroom and our journey through Distance Learning. And thank you for giving us this exciting opportunity to explore such a cool, creative project.”

    Funded Sep 10, 2020

During this time of Distance Learning, my students and I have craved the continuation of our classroom routines and enrichment. Above all we have found community and solace in our daily read aloud. It is your generosity that has made this possible.

Just today we read the book "Oh No!," a very funny book about a science experiment gone wrong. When I finished reading, one of my students remarked "that was a funny one."

The books we received have uplifted us, taken us on journeys, given us a laugh and let us reckon with our own strong feelings.

Thank you for thinking of us and giving us these opportunities to be together, even if through a screen."”
