  • More Read Aloud to Build Our Classroom Community

    Funded May 20, 2021

I love reading aloud to my students. Inspirational stories, funny stories and cozy stories--these books give our learning a solid foundation in humanity and the human story. There are so many incredible books included in this project. Books like "Laxmi's Mooch" give us permission to be ourselves and practice body positivity. And "Kiyoshi's Walk" encourages us to appreciate our families and find beauty in the world around us. The books we received have uplifted us, taken us on journeys, given us a laugh and let us reckon with our own strong feelings. I am proud to have these books in my classroom library. Thank you for making all this possible.”

    Mrs. Solis

  • Binoculars and Books: Exploring the Outdoors

    Funded May 4, 2021

Binoculars are AWESOME! Thank you so much for providing us with these incredible instruments for exploration and discovery. These binoculars are of really good quality. It's so gratifying to watch my students enjoy using their binoculars and studying their surroundings. We saw birds' nests, new spring tree buds, and very interesting cloud formations. We were also lucky enough to see some birds. The binoculars and nature books will be useful for years to come. My students and I will continue to take nature walks and learn from the world around us. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness!”

  • Beads, Stickers and Birdhouses: In-School Activities for Social Emotional Health

    Funded May 4, 2021

These projects were so much fun! The stickers, magnets and bird houses were a wonderful creative outlet for my students. As we got towards the end of the year this Spring, we were eager to complete some creative activities. The items included in this Donors Choose project were just the ticket! We had so much fun working with each other and being ourselves. After a challenging year, with a lot of changes, it was so gratifying to give my students these artistic opportunities. Thank you for your generosity and consideration!”

  • Sewing Up Monsters Craft Activity: Back to In Person Learning

    Funded Mar 9, 2021

These sewing kits are the best thing ever!

When we came back to in-person learning this past Spring I knew that we would need some socially distant activities. Sewing up these monsters was the perfect activity. My students were so engaged and they learned new skills. I had several students who really excelled at this project--by the end, they were able to teach other students. Even students who weren't crazy about making monsters have learned new skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.

My class and I loved our weekly sewing time (Thursday afternoons) and I would consider doing this type of project again. Thank you for your generosity and consideration.”

  • Water Bottles for Active 5th Graders: Back In-Person Edition

    Funded Feb 17, 2021

Thank you so much for these water bottles. They made all the difference to my students this past spring. When we came back to in-person learning all of the drinking fountains were shut off for safety reasons. My school provided a large sports jug to fill with water (since the closest water filling station is two floors away). Throughout the day, my students filled their water bottles and stayed hydrated. Thank you.

Students also loved the variety of the water bottles, the straws that came with and the stickers that I ordered.

Thank you for keeping us healthy and safe and for giving us some fun. We are so grateful for your generosity!”

  • Exploring the Outdoors: Back In-School Edition

    Funded Feb 22, 2021

Yes! Our outdoor adventure backpacks are awesome! We have been having so much fun using our new outdoor gear. The first week we went on our nature walk we used the magnifying glasses--they are so cool and they are a really good quality. The second week we created artwork and inspiration words on the sidewalks around school using the chalk. It felt so good to be outside in the spring weather (such a relief for cold-weary Minnesotans) and enjoying our community and classmates. On our next nature walk we are going to measure the trees with the soft measuring tapes you gave us and identify the trees using our tree guides.

This project has been so amazing and I can't wait for my students and I to explore even more. Particularly during COVID-times, it is so important that we have dedicated outside learning times. The outdoor adventure backpacks make those experiences better and more engaging. Thank you for your incredible generosity and thoughtfulness. Thank you for making this possible.”

  • Brain Builders: Back In-School Edition

    Funded Feb 17, 2021

Thank you! These games and sticker books came at exactly the right time. At the end of February some of my students and I started in-school learning after 10 months of distance learning. It was and is a big transition. These games are perfect for getting us excited to be back in school and keeping social distance from each other (which is hard). I love that my students can have fun and be participating in brain-building activities.

We couldn't have done this without your generosity and thoughtfulness. These games have truly made a difference for my students. Thank you for making this possible and helping my students.”

  • Building Our Brains: Distance Learning Edition

    Funded Dec 21, 2020

Thank you for these brain building materials. One of the most challenging parts of virtual teaching and learning is staying engaged. To help them stay engaged during our many hours of computer-based learning, I like to give them different options of things they can do with their hands, like playdoh, paint-by-sticker books and tangrams. These materials engage my students, release stress, stave off boredom and build critical thinking skills. I am grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness towards my students during Distance Learning. Your support has truly made a difference. Thank you.”

  • Diverse Chapter Books to Inspire Amazing Readers!

    Funded Jan 28, 2021

Yes! This is AMAZING! These books came at exactly the right time. On Monday my students and I will be returning to in-person learning. Of course, there is a lot that goes into opening our classroom after 11 months. Amongst the things and procedures to get ready is our classroom library.

My students love reading. They get lost in books. I knew that I would need some new books for our library (some to replace the books that I gave away when we were in Distance Learning and some just because it's so fun to get new books). The books that you donated our classroom are perfect--there are diverse protagonists, a variety of genres and different reading levels, that will support my students needs. I'm particularly excited about "The Unicorn Rescue Society" and I plan to use it for my first class read aloud. A safe return to school is my highest priority, so we also have some new procedures for checking out and returning books.

Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness. These books will have such a positive impact on my students. Thank you.”

  • Supplies for Amazing Artists: Distance Learning Edition

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much! These art supplies have made such an impact on my students' learning during our time in Distance Learning. I am so grateful. We have had great moments of joy, calm, creativity and togetherness. We have a dedicated art time on Wednesdays afternoon, and it is a time that we look forward to all week. We are use our art materials in our Morning Meeting time and throughout the day. I wanted to show you one of our projects--made with food coloring, water and eye droppers; it was a cool experience and the kids loved it. It is because of your generosity that we have this amazing opportunity. Thank you.”

My students are explorers. They have come from many different parts of the world, with a wide variety of experiences and gifts. In our school, 85% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch and 92% of the students are students of color. The majority of students are learning English as a second or third language. They are students with the capacity to achieve greatness.
