Desk Pets for Excited 4th Graders!
Funded Aug 3, 2021Thank you so much for these Desk Pets supplies. Simply put, my students are in love with their pets. Each student has received a pet and it's house. They have named their pets and (I love this part) they take them out to read to during Independent Reading--this was totally organic and not teacher-influenced.
Last week we opened our class store, and students could spend their hard earned class-money on blankets (felt squares), pillows (cotton balls), food (food erasers) and habitat stickers. They were over the moon and so thoughtful towards their Desk Pets--concerned with making purchases that would make their pets comfortable.
By having Desk Pets in my classroom this year, my students are learning responsibility and budgeting. And it's very sweet to see them care for their pets.
Thank you for giving us this opportunity!”

Amazing Books to Welcome Us Back to School
Funded Aug 27, 2021Yay! Thank you! My students are getting pumped about Independent Reading. And the books you sent us are the foundation to encouraging excited readers. The graphic novels and the new series called "Sadiq" (about a Somali boy) created the biggest draw. I love opening book boxes with students and hearing "Teacher, can I have that one?" or "I'm next with that one" just warm my teacher-heart. It's clear that having books that students desire and can relate to are crucial to creating a reader-friendly classroom community. And that's my aim. We are so grateful that you've provided these amazing and exciting additions to our classroom library. Thank you!!”

Funded Aug 3, 2021Thank you so much for your generosity. Thank you for contributing to the warmth, connectedness and community of our classroom. When the big and beautiful rug I had requested was ordered, it turns out that it was out of stock. But, that might have been for the best, as this year I was moved to a much smaller room, and, frankly, a large rug would not have fit in the footprint of my new classroom. That's okay. When I was ordering the replacements for this project I considered the original goal: creating a warm and welcoming environment in our classroom. To that end I ordered a welcome mat, healthy snacks (our lunch is really late this year), chair bands (big rubber bands for fidgeting), Mr. Sketch markers (the best!) for making posters, some fun stickers and two beautiful and timely books.
I know our classroom didn't get what you had originally donated, but I think our new items really fit the needs of our classroom and fit the original goal. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. We are really grateful!”

Read Aloud Books to Start Our Year Off Right
Funded Aug 19, 2021Yes! I am so excited about these books! The picture books you have sent us are so beautiful, like jewels, the way that their colors come off the pages. And the stories! It is so fulfilling to have books in our classroom library that my students can relate it and books that challenge my students to see the world from another perspective--it's exciting what books can do.
The books that you sent have been crucial to setting up our classroom community. Creating community is always the most important first step in a classroom, but it's even more so this year after a year of distance learning and uncertainty. Thank you for giving me the tools that I need to build trust and empathy in our classroom. We are so grateful!”

Funded Jul 28, 2021Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. The last two years have been very strange and my goal for this year was to start with joy. I want my students to love school and learning. The tools that you have donated make my goal easier to accomplish. Instead of worrying about supplies I have been able to focus on engaging activities and building our classroom community. Supplies aren't always the most exciting things to donate to a classroom, but they are certainly a necessity. I know that, because of your generosity, all of my students will have what they need, regardless if they are able to bring it in to school. Thank you for considering our needs and providing everything we need to start our school year. We are so grateful!”

New Supplies for a New Year
Funded Aug 3, 2021Thank you for your incredible generosity. We are in our third week of school and these supplies have made such a difference, even in the short time that we've been together. We've already celebrated a birthday in our classroom and when the students saw the awesome gifts you sent us (the smencils, erasers and the lego animals) they started yelling out their birthdays--just so I wouldn't forget their day of glory (I already have them written down, but it was really cute).
I can't wait to get into the math-art book and the math mysteries. I can tell that my students will be really into those activities. And we're already using the geography book and the Ticonderoga pencils.
Thank you so much for thinking of us and making the start to our school year so awesome!”

Healthy Snacks for Hardworking 5th Graders: Back In-School Edition
Funded Apr 16, 2021Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. My students have loved these snacks. On many days these snacks saved our grumbly stomachs from distracting us from our work. And these snacks were a bright note when we were state testing. It was also really engaging for the students to vote on the snack they wanted to try. Many of these snacks gave my students a new experience with new flavors--so much fun!
Thank you for this experience and giving us the access to these resources. These snacks have been very important for my students and their academic development. Thank you for believing in this project!”

Funded May 18, 2021Thank you so much for your incredible generosity. We love books in our classroom--everyday we have 30 minutes of independent reading. Studies have shown that kids who select their own books and are given uninterrupted time will improve their reading skills and, more importantly, more likely fall in love with reading. Giving this opportunity to my students is one of my most important teacher goals. Thank you for giving us this chance.
With your generosity and the amazing-ness that is Donors Choose, my classroom has one of the most amazing classroom libraries. I think this is an essential component of creating life-long readers--when they have access to high-quality and engaging literature they will be more engaged readers.
It is particularly important for my students to have access to amazing books and a calm reading time during this challenging year. Thank you so much for your support and generosity!”
