  • Comfy Reading Time!

    Funded Feb 5, 2024

Thank you for your generosity. My students have reading time every day. Each day 5 to 10 students are assigned to read on the rug. Now because of your donation, my students have the opportunity to be comfortable while reading. They have the option to sit on the cushions. They absolutely love them. They love them so much, that they have requested to use them at their regular seats.

When we received the donations they were excited because now we would have enough for a whole group to use the cushions. Everyday after recess my students are happy because they know it's reading time and will be able to sit on the rug and use the comfortable cushions. Thank you again for your generous donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Torres

  • Creative Big Minds!

    Funded Jan 14, 2022

Thank you so much for your donations to "Creative Big Minds!" They were really excited to see the donations for our art time. My students have enjoyed art time with the water colors. One specific project we used the water colors was for Valentine's Day. They were able to create a Valentine's Card using the materials for someone special. The next big project they will use the materials is for Mother's Day. They will be able to create a special gift for a mother that will include the magic model. They will also use the water color paints to create a special card for a mother. Thank you again for your generosity towards our project/art needs. I am so grateful; but more importantly, my students are joyful to have these new resources for our art time.”

  • Ready to Rule Fourth Grade!

    Funded Sep 25, 2021

This project has done many wonderful things for my students. My students have continued to work on their fluency when reading the Scholastic News articles and the books. Fluency is an important part of fourth grade because it speeds up the rate at which they can read and understand text. It's also important when kids encounter irregular words, like of and the, which can't be sounded out.

Reading in my classroom is about thirty minutes of independent reading time. In fourth grade, students are encouraged to be more independent in how they learn. While students are reading at their desk silently, I am working with a small group of students. In small groups, I teach students how to deeply think about the text and make connections and grasp more complex concepts across all subjects. My students are also learning how to write traditional essays in response to the text they read.

All of my students are thrilled to have new books to read. They especially love the articles from Scholastic News because they are able to take home and share them with their family. Thank you so much for giving my students this great opportunity!”

  • Discovering a New Way to Learn!

    Funded Sep 3, 2020

Thank you so much for your donations. My students were very excited when they went to the school to pick up their bag that included the materials provided by your donations. My students have been able to enjoy their new materials. The timers are used daily at home to help my students with fluency and while reading at home. The jump ropes are also used daily by my students to stay active while the are at learning from home and as part of their physical education. My next steps are to continue to support my students in their learning and continue using their new wonderful materials to enhance their learning.”

  • Distance Learning Care Packet!

    Funded Sep 1, 2020

My students are using their new resources weekly. They use their writing journal and crayons to answer questions I post on our platform. Students are continuing to write as much as they can using descriptive words to let the reader know exactly what they are thinking. The play-doh was used for a STEM project to give them a challenge to see how tall they could build a tower using the play-doh and toothpicks.

My students were really excited to receive their new resources. They really had a lot of fun with their STEM challenge. One student said her mother went to the Dollar Tree store to buy her more play-doh so that she could build new things.

My next steps are to continue using our writing journal for science projects and writing prompts. Distance learning is challenging for many of my students and with there resources it makes it fun for them to use because of the materials they are using.”

  • STEM for All Students!

    Funded Jan 17, 2020

My students have been ready to choose a variety of items that will allow them to create anything that comes into their mind. They are using these new resources weekly as I expose them to STEM activities.

When my students first saw the materials, they were very excited to see they had more options with the new resources. They wanted more doors, windows and roof tiles so that more students would have the opportunity to build a building. My students wanted more wheels so that more students can build a vehicle.

The next steps for my students will be to have FUN FRIDAYS. Every Friday, there will be STEM center activities. Students will be able to try different activities such as who can build the highest tower with the fewest pieces, after reading a fairy tale they create a castle, build a model that demonstrates the concept of pattern, or construct a vehicle. I am grateful to have additional items for my students to use as they learn to collaborate and share their ideas.”

  • STEM for Young Minds

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

My students have been ready to test out their ideas. They are using these new resources weekly as I expose them to STEM activities. .

When my students first saw the materials, they were very excited to learn what they could do with them. I sat my students on the rug and showed them each container we received. I explained somethings they could do with each resource. The Design & Build Engineering Centers came with cards that are photographs of vehicles, bridges and structures. After viewing the cards, my students were even more excited to get started right away. The Lego Brick Set was awesome too, some students had never had the chance to use legos.

The next steps for my students will be to have FUN FRIDAYS. Every Friday, there will be STEM center activities. Students will be able to try different activities such as who can build the highest tower with the fewest pieces, after reading a fairy tale they create a castle, build a model that demonstrates the concept of pattern, or construct a bridge strong enough to support a vehicle made by other students.”

  • Move and Be Fit!

    Funded Oct 23, 2019

The exercise equipment provided with this project is used three times a week during our physical education. The parachute and soccer balls are perfect for promoting cooperative group play while helping them build muscles. The bean bags provide opportunities for students to warm up and allows them to work together while exercising. The equipment is not only used by my classroom, but also used by the other three first grade classrooms. During our physical education, the four classrooms do rotations, therefore allowing all the first graders to take advantage and use the equipment.

My students were very excited to see new equipment. They were ready to go out and use it the same day it arrived. Some students had never used a parachute and were very curious to use it. It did not take much explanation for the parachute, the students were ready to use it within a few minutes of explaining how to use it. They were also very excited that we have six soccer balls, which means they do not have to wait too long to get a chance to kick the ball. They were also surprised to see many bean bags because now they are able to use it with a partner.

My next steps for my students with the equipment is to continue using during our physical education and finding new ways and games to use with the new equipment provided through this project.”

  • Creating Meaningful Experiences with Integrating Arts!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Reading can take you places you've never been. With these materials my students have been able to express themselves, explore, and find connections through integrated activities. My students are using the sound shapes, ukulele, the tambourine, the scarves, the mega phone and director's chair for storytelling. These materials make a difference because my students' learning is supported as they use these materials to retell familiar stories, create stories, and have constructive conversations.

When my students first saw the materials they were excited! Some students knew what the materials were and how to use them, but others did not know what they were or how to use them. After I explained to them what they were for they were extremely happy. They wanted to get started right away.

I told my students how I had recently attended a professional development in which taught me how to integrate the arts with language arts, math, science, and social science with the items we received. They were very excited to be in my class and be able to use them.

My next steps for my students is to continue using the materials and use them as much as possible, a couple times a week. I am sure my student will be delighted to use them as often as they can. My students really enjoy acting out a story, therefore I plan to put on a reader's theater at least once a week. I have the materials for a director, in which students will get an opportunity to direct a story. This will also get them to think about future careers and expose them to all the possibilities they have.

Reading a story and being able to express it through movements, music, and voice is a very fun way to learn and integrate the subjects. Thank you very much for your support and helping me achieve my goal: to Create Meaningful Experiences with Integrating Arts!”

My class is filled with motivated learners that are very active at their young age. I teach at a school that is poorly funded and has limited classroom space. I like to keep my young students engaged with kinesthetic learning activities, which also integrate the arts. It is not possible to keep the classroom clear and safe for kinesthetic learning activities without a mobile back pack storage unit.
