We need two dry erase wall boards, cleaner, markers, wipes, so I can model, write objectives, and have space to answer math problems. In my classroom, we want to clearly share objectives, model problems, and give the student a board that they can self express. We do a lot of competitions after we have taught math concepts. So far we have been limited to one whiteboard that is very difficult to clean (it ruins our dry erase markers). I have a group of young people that love to compete where everyone can see their work. As a teacher, it is crucial that the students persevere through problem solving; especially expressing different ways of solving middle school math problems. Every week our students have incentive to earn a shake from the University of Chicago Reynolds Hall. When they reach their points, on the board we keep their total for the whole week. They look directly at the board when they are taking notes in class. It helps with their focus. This is coming from a population of students that have difficulty staying focused. It encourages them to stay on task.
