Enhancing English Language Learning Using an iPad

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your support. With your donations I was able to purchase a mini ipad with headphones for use by my ESOL students. The ipad contains many free apps that I was able to download in order to help my students practice basic sight words, practice alphabet letters and letter sounds, develop content vocabulary, and listen to stories online. All of these applications help my students to become better readers because when they use these programs they develop their decoding skills, build phonemic awareness, and practice reading fluency. Additionally, many of the ipad apps enable my students to practice and use their listening and speaking skills.

All of my students were excited to use the ipad and it became an impetus for students to complete their work and behave in class. Newcomer students particularly enjoyed and benefited from the ipad. It provided them with opportunities to practice basic language skills and vocabulary in a comfortable and self-paced way. Many also enjoyed using the ipad with a partner. I always saw smiles on their faces as they were using this wonderful technology.
