Headphones That Work!
Funded Jan 29, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity. Receiving these headphones will make working on the computer easier for my students. Combining the headphones with our Chromebooks will allow me to plan lessons that give students more independence in demonstrating their learning. I appreciate the time and attention you give to meeting the needs of my students.”

Funded Apr 28, 2017Our school has been building its chromebook collection for several years now. The goals behind that acquisition include:
1. Helping students learn to type.
2. Helping students learn to write.
3. Helping students learn to gather, evaluate, and use information.
4. Teaching students how to be good digital citizens.
5. Teaching students how to use the library catalog.
6. Helping students develop academically by practicing their skills using various software programs.
The students continue to practice the skills they are using when they have access to the chromebooks. The five chromebooks that I received as a result of this grant bring me up to 15 total chromebooks. That means that I can do a variety of activities with the students and have them practice as I teach. I can also use programs that allow students to respond to questions during the lesson which gives me a chance to assess where they are in terms of understanding. These sorts of lessons also help keep the students engaged in the lesson.
The chromebooks also allow the students to take the Reading Counts quizzes that help assess their comprehension as they read. I also hope to introduce the students to a program that allows them to share what they are reading and discover new books.”

Funded Mar 10, 2016I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my students use the materials that your funds have made available to our school.
The Fairy Tale STEM kits have provided the 4th and 5th graders the opportunity for some hands on problem-solving as they worked to construct the appropriate structure. Each kit focuses on one fairy tale (3 Pigs, 3 Bears, and Three Billy Goats Gruff) along with an structure. The Three Little Pigs kit had the students build a house using the included materials that was large enough to hold the three pig figurines and sturdy enough not to blow over. The Three Bears kit asked the students to build a chair with the included materials that could hold Papa Bear. The Three Billy Goats Gruff kit provided the greatest challenge by asking the students to build a bridge that would hold the three goat figures while being tall enough for the troll figure to fit underneath it. The students created designs and then tested them out by building them with the included materials. Not only did the students work on figuring out what worked and didn't work, but they also worked on their team-building skills.
The other materials ordered were used with K-3 grades. The puppets have been an especially big hit as all the students wanted to use them. I used the puppets to help students learn about storytelling and the skills involved in becoming a better storyteller (remembering plot, characters, setting, voice, expression, etc). The students were more than willing to help tell stories using the puppets. It has helped a great deal with student engagement.
I plan to use the kits in the future with my students because they encourage engagement and critical thinking as well as skill practice and development.
Thanks so much for your generosity in helping with the project. It will continue to benefit the students for years to come.”
